Personally I think I would rather celebrate with a Dave's burger instead. Just down the street from he Sheriff's Dept. Then again La Cabaña makes pretty good nachos too.

Wouldn't that be fun -- a bunch of Calgunners with CCWs?

I thought Ofc. Grant was the nicest person and so is Debbie -- I sent the Sheriff a letter to say his staff should be recognized for the good courteous work they do -- I got my call in 2 weeks of the application hitting their office -- what a nice surprise!

Good luck, Jody. I turned mine in about two weeks ago. Hopefully I get a call as quick as Steyrlp did.

So many apps in progress! Wow! I wonder, would anyone know where to get the recent numbers for permits issued on Solano?

Ok starting to wonder....its been just over 2 months since my livescan & no call yet. I have recently passed multiple livescans for other stuff without incident, in addition to a background check. Are they that back logged? I talked to Debbie a few days ago and she said she was doing some backgrounds. Is there a time limit for this process. Oh well I guess no news is good news.

I've been wondering the same thing. It's been 60 days since my livescan as well. From what I understand they should give you a response within 90 days from application but that has come and gone too.

Yes there is a time limit set by state law. I believe it is 90 days from submission of the app or 30 days from livescan, whichever is longer.

I know they are receiving lots of apps. When I picked up my permit several moths ago, I was told they are running backgrounds on an average of 5 a day.

The plus side is that they are issuing permits and I give them credit for this. My experience was very positive and the people I dealt with were extremely professional and helpful.

That being said, if anyone were to try to push the time limit issue I would hope they were courteous about it. It's not an ideal situation yet as there is still the discretion of the Sheriff to consider.

This is why I have been really hesitant to say anything just yet. Everyone I spoke to both in person and on the phone was really nice and helpful. It's only been about a week past my 90 day mark so I suppose I can be patient for a bit longer.

The time limits are 90-day from submission of application or 30-days after they receive the results of your background check, whichever is longer. If you saved your Livescan reciept, there is a phone number on there that will get you an automated response as to if and when the Sheriff received the results.

My livescan was more than 60 days ago as well.
I checked with Debbie 2 weeks ago and she said they were still waiting for the results. Unfortunately, I have not kept my livescan receipt, but those who have - what is the number to call?

Solano SO has been overwhelmed with applications and are short staffed as well. The long time employee that had been doing the CCW app's has retired and someone else is now filling that role, I doubt it's her only job. I haven't had a chance to call and confirm, but I've had one person tell me that Solano now has an appointment system in place to drop off app's. Please be patient with them.

I am certainly relived to know that it isn’t just my background check taking so long. Will give them another 2-3 weeks before calling.

I did a Live Scan for my notary commission and like PurpleK mentioned, staffing is short everywhere -- I didn't get my results back until it was down to the wire-- nearly 2 months. It's one of those things, so best of luck to everyone

Solano County is going to be one of the best-protected counties in the Bay Area

Congratulations! I just got the call today as well that my renewal was approved.

On a side note, I noticed in the Suisun PD Lobby that the CCW fees have been removed from the bulletin board where they post the various permit fees the department collects. It was there so long that the board has faded and it's still legible without the letters being there! I wish the city governments in Solano were as reasonable as the SO.

That's interesting. I wonder if maybe Suisun PD has just decided to defer all applications to SO. Did you originally get your permit though PD?

I think it's listed on the application packet on the Sheriff's site.

If my understanding is correct, it doesn't have to be on the roster in order for you to list it on your permit. Come to think of it, I think you don't even have to have proof of ownership/registration. I'm sure someone will come along with the specifics though.

I see also how on the application, section 3 where it asks for description of weapon it would be easy to leave out the fact that it is an off rooster gun. I could just leave out the Gen4 part on the description. I wanted to call and ask the sheriffs office, but it maybe better not to ask and bring attention to the off roster statis of the handgun. I guess I'll find out either way. I was mostly concerned because recently I read here on calguns of a guy who had his off roster gun denied for ccw. I tried to find the thread but could'nt locate it. I'm also not sure what county he was appling for.

Congratulations. It seems like with the Sheriff back from vacation, maybe things are picking up. (At least that's what I'm telling myself to pass the time).

It was pretty straightforward. It was really more like I showed him what I knew and demonstrated my proficiency. The test was very similar to the handgun safety test and the shooting portion is outlined on his website.

Now that I know for sure I do have a good "good cause statement", is there anyway to submit it to the good cause statement list for solano county. I am not a LEO or CO, I think it could be helpful to others planning to apply.

Been thinking the same, but here's a questions - if one is unable to convincingly explain why they want to carry a gun (apart from having the right to), should one be trusted with the responsibility?

So, I decided not to post my statement verbatim. However, I will list the 3 main points I made in my application:
1. Going to ranges with firearms making me a potential target.
2. Hiking in remote areas with my family
3. Being a responsible gun owner who puts emphasis on avoiding unsafe situations, especially when carring a gun.
