FFL,El Dorado County
Hello, I live in El Dorado County and I am trying to get a FFL license at my home the planning department says no you can not have a ffl business licenses to sell firearms at non commercial house in El Dorado County. While talking to the planning dept. he said what if there was a different way or business to sell them (I took this as there might be a different way he cant tell me about)Does any one know if there is? I am not looking for a storefront at my house but a buy appt. only setup. ANY info will help just trying to make some extra money for my family. Thanks Keith

Sounds like he's saying they'll issue a permit only for a commercial location.
You may have done this, but see also the sticky here -- http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=384995

Thanks for the reply I have read that. I was wondering if there was any other way without commercial building being involved to much over head for my wife and I. They have issued licenses to a residential house in the past in this county just cant ask them how they did it I would be competition to the people I would have to ask. I got the feeling this morning with the planning dept. there was another way that is why I posted here (hope) thank you

Best thing is to search your city code for "home-based business". When I called my planning department the clerk said "It's not allowed" but wouldn't cite reasons. When pressed, her reply was "It's just not allowed" which is really frustrating. So I took it upon myself to search the city code which was quite clear that it wasn't restricted, and we know that anything not explicitly restricted is allowed. I know for a fact that cities like San Jose definitely don't allow home-based firearms dealers or even gunsmithing, as written in city code.
