Default Bank for FFL

I just received my FFL 01. I am getting turned down by banks left and right because of the nature of business. Any suggestions on where to open up an account? I’m in the Fresno area. Thanks.

Tri Counties Bank. You have a branch in Fresno.

Chase is still 2A friendly, and they have a number of incentives for new businesses if you meet the requirements.

Ditto on Chase, they were very friendly towards the 2A shops and did't care if you have an online sales portion either.

US Bank for the win! They will give you an account, will be your credit card processor and a line of credit.

Regarding Chase (FYI):
Quote:
While other financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase have fallen into line to deny banking services to the gun industry, many have not. Wells Fargo announced it would not get involved in political posturing and would do business with lawful companies.

I've been with Wells from day 1 (I was clear what I am doing) and I knew they didn't do CC processing. At least they didn't close my checking account like I heard about another FFL here with Citibank (or Chase, I forgot). I've not had any issues with Wells and they also provided me a business line of credit with no issues.

What other "real service with effort" do you utilize at the bank? I've never had a problem getting Cashier's Checks either. Other than CC processing which I'm probably getting better rates where I'm at what do you utilize from your bank? I'm wondering what I'm missing out on.

Another feature I use is the syncing to Quickbooks to reconcile my Checking account monthly. Not everyone uses that so I can see that not being high up on the feature / needs list.

Understood. My point was that accepting credit and debit is 85% of our income.

Why won’t they? At US Bank they process CC’s under 2%

I guess at the end of the day, if a bank doesn’t provide for full service banking for the gun industry, are they really pro 2A? ( or even neutral)

That's pretty good, including Amex and the rewards cards? The provider I'm with now (Clearant/Freedom Processing) is doing cost + .5%.

Do they have any other fees at US Bank and do they have a virtual terminal with zen cart shopping cart integration (possibly Authorize.net emulator) along with the PCI scanning? I may consider switching since I'm not in a contract.

We have a US Bank branch near me.

The package we got was no other fees however we did buy our own terminal for $600 or so.

I came across this for Wells:
https://www.americanbanker.com/artic...r-gun-industry

Might help others make a choice depending where they are located and what is near them.

I am considering leasing an old bank to move my FFL to.

Chase and Wells Fargo have both been half arsed supportive.

I hate to say it, but Wells Fargo has committed to not get involved in the politics of the 2A. I went with them after Union Bank f’ed me for no reason they would give. I left Bank of the Best (BNP Paribas). Voluntarily after they wouldn’t lend to me...

Union Bank is 100% a (corrected) Japanese bank

Using them is 100% Un American. I’m glad they dropped you. They hate guns and atom bombs

Wells Fargo will not process your credit/debit cards so they do infringe on the 2A. Open your eyes!

My understanding is that Union is and always was a Japanese bank.

I don’t use Wells for CC processing so it’s a non issue in that sense.

Wishing that an FFL gets dropped from a bank suddenly just makes you an *****hole.

You’re right!

I got it confused with “union pay”. Which is the Chinese credit card rival to VISA and MasterCard.

Maybe so, but I speak from personal experience. I don’t just pontificate about who is or isn’t 2A friendly.

Perhaps but at least i don't pretend the banks are for us and just take it in the keister about what pro 2A is.

If a bank doesn't offer full service for what we do since they see supposed liability, they are not pro 2A.

Its kinda like the supposed gun lovers who agree with universal background checks and telling us 10 round mags are safer.

You are pontificating the same exact thing!

I'm not pontificating about anything.

I do what I believe is best for my business. For example, I have my CC account with Intuit Merchant Services and despite the recent negative attention they received, I will continue to use them for several reasons. My rates are good. They have no problem with gun sales as long as you are not an online vendor. This rule makes no sense to me, but it is in their T&C's and it does not affect me so I don't worry about it. Lastly, it is the only CC processor that is fully integrated with Quickbooks POS.

There will always be providers that are more 2A friendly than others, but sometimes it is simply not practical to utilize them.

And I totally agree with you about doing what you can for your business!

However, I’m just saying none of us should have to deal with this BS. We have US bank as our main account and a Wells at our other location so we can write checks locally and get change. (No US bank within 75 miles). We should all be able to choose who we want with the best rates.

We all need to rally around what is truly pro 2A.

Yeah, as I and many others mentioned, go with Chase if you're still out of options.

If you got your FEIN, CA SoS LLC1 and LLC12, Business License, Seller's Permit, and good credit, their Private Client / Business Bankers have no problem helping you. Just walk in with your docs, be professional, and they will take care of you.

When I started my FFL, I got Savings/Checking, and a cashback of $300 for depositing $1,000 into the checking. I also got a Chase Ink Business card with $500 cashback after spending $3,000 in 3 months, and a $24,000 limit. (When opening a CC with an LLC, they use the Managing Member's FICO. Mine was 830.) They offered me Merchant Processing, but they took 2.9% for Credit transactions, and around 5% for Debit. I went with Costco. They offer fantastic Merchant Processing solutions; https://www.costco.com/merchant-account.html.

What are the real rates for Costco / Elavon? I've seen companies (including the one I'm with) advertise 2.0%, but when you look at the statement something like Visa will have different tiers of cards from 2.0% -> 3.5%, etc..

Is Costco really that flat %?

Also, there sometimes other fees.. if you look at your statement what other fees exist (if any)..

Things like statement fees, authorization fees, any other monthly fees, etc..

I might be interested in changing to their service if I find out it really is cheaper then what I'm getting now..

Also, they fully understand you're a firearms company? Do you take advantage of their online gateway and do they offer PCI scanning / compliance services too? I currently pay $8 / mo for that feature.

Is Costco really that flat %?

Also, there sometimes other fees.. if you look at your statement what other fees exist (if any)..

I use Elavon, and my net rate after fees fluctuates between 1.66% and 1.80%

The NRA should open a bank. Really not that hard and they have the money and lawyers to make it happen.

DO you use their online services too?
Does that % include PCI compliance services or are those extra?

My "in store" % is in the range you mention, but online transactions go higher bringing my total net to around 2.5% now across online/retail transactions.
