My O1991 slighty modded to more of an A1 configuration. Also had Alan Tanaka do an action job and reduce the trigger pull to 4 lbs

Looking through the pics, I noticed Colt doesn't like to put front checkering on the grip. Is there a reason?

The original guns did not have checkering on the front strap. When you see it on older guns it was a custom touch added by gunsmiths aftermarket. It was usually bullseye shooters who desired it. For the decades that Colt has made the 1911 it has not offered front strap checkering.

In 1996 Kimber began offering factory guns with checkering on the front strap along with a number of other touches normally considered aftermarket custom work. Other 1911 manufacturers followed suit and Colt began offering it on occasion on some special runs. But in general it does not do it much.

Whether you want it is a matter of taste.

I picked up my Railgun a few months back after an extended stay with Will O'Hara. After shooting it for a while I've decided to finish it off with a few more custom touches- 10-8 U Notch serrated rear sight with serrated rear slide to match, flat top and serrate slide top, gold bead front sight, bevel package, and C&S hammer. Here's the pics before I drop it off for the next round of work:

1911Luvr,
Those rail gun pics, from another thread, drove me to join this forum, just to tell you nice job.
I sent mine off Monday, similar but different ideas. It was 2 tone, will be 2 tone again, just reversed. Hard chrome frame, ionbond top. I'll post to this thread when it comes home, if it's still open.
Did you decide on a finish?
