Default Worst city to own a firearm?

Please forgive me of this dumb question but there are many who live in metropolitan areas in California claiming cities are not the best place to own firearms. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and list goes on. Though I heard the southern part of California is more pro gun compared to the northern half of state. Not sure if this is true, if anyone can confirm I would appreciate it. I'm sure San Francisco & Los Angeles are not gun friendly especially with politicians/celebrities/wealth. I know not all are like that but majority support this so call gun control/safe act thinking it will solve everything.

I believe it would closely follow the CCW policy map. Areas where CCW are issued at a high rate are pro gun. Areas where CCW are not issued at all are anti gun.

It has less to do with south vs north, more like east vs west. As you can see, East CA is very CCW friendly. So is the entire northern part above Yolo/Sonoma.

"Worst city to own a firearm?"

I suppose it would all depend upon your definition of "worst". The map above roughly reflects general attitudes of the public and governments as regards firearms ownership, but by no means indicates that you cannot *own* a firearm in that area.

There are actually many firearms owners in the Metro areas, but we tend to be low profile types, knowing that we're surrounded by others that very likely do not share our views on handguns, rifles, etc.

Some municipalities (Los Angeles, Sunnyvale, etc) have prohibited private ownership of 'hi capacity' magazines, no matter when you purchased them (say, legally pre-2000) but there has been, as far as I know, zero compliance with those laws - that is, no one has turned in their magazines to Law Enforcement.

San Francisco has a weird, very unclear law on JHP ammo ownership, but again, I'd be very surprised if any of the public that owns JHP in San Francisco are worried about it. Or even know about it for
sure.

I'm sure there are others, but you get the idea.

Worst city to own a firearm ~ Best city to own a firearm

Know what I'm saying? The worse it is, the higher the need.

SF. Not only do we lack CCWs, but there is no longer a single FFL within city limits. I have to travel either down to South San Francisco or to the East Bay to get my fixxins..

The worst city to own a handgun is the city where you actually might have to use it to take someone's life. Never a good event, even in self defense.

Good point. And how about available gun ranges within the city to shoot the guns you own?

As far as I know, there are no specific city/county restrictions on what you can own. There is of course the statewide DOJ Approved Roster, which is a giant pain in the ***. But even San Francisco doesn't have a list of makes/models that are legal or not - the list itself would be illegal. Cities can't make those kinds of restrictions I believe.

Truthfully, the biggest hassles with living in the majority of the metro areas is lack of LTC issuance and the restrictions on ammunition purchases through the mail. Some cities and counties won't allow mail order ammo.. and that sucks.

Unfortunately it's not a 'San Francisco thing' - it's a greater Bay Area thing. There are so few indoor ranges and even fewer outdoor ranges in the area and I'm going to predict that there will *never* be a "new" range opening any where nearby soon.

Default What I'm aware of.

I know in counties/small towns in California you can conceal carry a pistol. Also I know there are some people in metro areas own firearms but don't talk about it that much due paranoid/anti gun people around them. CCW in metro areas I know it's impossible to obtain one unless you LEO/Federal Agent.

This is not 100% correct, but close enough to 100% as to be practically the same thing.

Los Angeles ... is terribly brutal ... they have laws that not matter other cities have even heard. E.g. within the county even ppt transfers have a 30 day gap.

Can't name a single one. Once again, you have Jackson Arms and Coyote Point south of the city.

Even in small towns or friendly counties, it is legal to carry loaded+concealed only with a permit except in certain circumstances like for example a campsite. But those permits are good in the whole state. When I go to San Francisco, I am legally carrying a concealed/loaded firearm on me the whole time. I will be there again in a few weeks for a week long stay, and I will have a Glock 43 on me.

Did you know that it's illegal to carry in s.f. ? city ordinance, they also don't allow hollow points! Permit or not!

All of this is false.

Sorry dude, 100% incorrect. A License To Carry is valid throughout the state of California; everywhere and anywhere (unless restricted on the permit itself). Cities can't make up laws that supersede state law.

And the hollowpoint restriction is limited to ammunition that is identical in performance to 'Black Talon' and then... even not that.

EDIT: I apologize; this part *maybe* correct - "Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk"

Quit while you're ahead bud. If they arrest me, they will be on the losing end of a big money lawsuit, and they know it which is why I won't be taking a ride in a wagon.

You apparently don't like it, but get over it. It is perfectly legal to carry in the city with my permit, and I avail myself of that privilege every chance I get - I make no exceptions for FUD.

Why don't you prove me wrong. I'm picking up my permit tomorrow. And calls were made to sheriff's and that's what was told to me by them and that your local sheriff could pick you and your gun up from jail

Not trying to start anything. I'm pro gun also. The question was asked in my ccw class about carrying in s.f. and that's when calls were made to confirm. I'm not saying it will result in a case but because it's their city ordinance they will take you to jail.

Hate to say it folks but San Francisco takes the cake for worst city to own a gun:

- Required the video recording of guns purchased (when we had the 1 gun store)
- Reporting of ammunition sold to the Police Department (when we had the 1 gun store)
- No hollowpoint ammo sales (when we had the 1 gun store)
- 2 boxes (100rds) of ammo purchase per day max (when we had the 1 gun store)
- No more gun store since Oct 2015 because of the first 2 points which were the final straw that closed the last San Francisco store
- No high capacity mags even if you purchased them way back when and have proof of ownership
- No ammo shipping into San Francisco
- Must drive at least an hour to long gun/outdoor range
- Cannot have your firearm out of locked storage unless you are carrying INSIDE YOUR OWN HOME!

This is the latest: http://www.sfexaminer.com/san-franci...-control-laws/

This information you posted about current laws, kind of makes sense. I can't find any good sources online whether it's anti firearm, misinformation, or sometimes stupidity. I'm new firearms so knowing this gives me a better understanding.

Tiger, this same BS has been rumored for many many years, and I am here to tell you that it is completely false.

SF cannot arbitrarily disallow a valid and current LTC holder from carrying in the city; they cannot arrest you for it, they cannot legally confiscate your firearm and there is absolutely no "city ordinance" that prohibits legal carry within city limits.

Seriously, I have my LTC and I carry in the city pretty much every day for the last.. jeez... 20 years? damn I'm old. Anyway, it's a common FUD story that some issuing agencies and "CCW trainers" keep promoting. Why? Who friggin' knows?

But I will issue my standing $100 challenge to anyone that continues to push this nonsense - show me the ordinance, show me verified evidence of any current/valid LTC holder ever being arrested, detained, or having their firearm confiscated in San Francisco ever.

It's been many many years and it hasn't happened yet.

I get it. Some people really hate San Francisco, and that's their business. But to have to make up **** to validate that hate is childish.

No problem at all. BUT! Secure in that knowledge, as the old saying goes "concealed is concealed" - I wouldn't test any officer anywhere by declaring that I'm carrying. Why invite trouble?

My issuing agency requires informing an LEO in certain situations; traffic stop, etc. but other than that? Why poke the blue bear?

- 2 boxes (100rds) of ammo purchase per day max (when we had the 1 gun store)
- No more gun store since Oct 2015 because of the first 2 points which were the final straw that closed the last San Francisco store
- No high capacity mags even if you purchased them way back when and have proof of ownership
- No ammo shipping into San Francisco
- Must drive at least an hour to long gun/outdoor range
- Cannot have your firearm out of locked storage unless you are carrying INSIDE YOUR OWN HOME!

Damn, I thought Los Angeles was bad but these so called rules/safety are ridiculous & mind blowing.

I have a small desire to see a gamma ray bomb detonated in the Bay Area killing everyone (while there is the Calguns event for Norcal far away from the blast point) so every wretched hippie will die.

Well, its either there or the Capitol House in Sacramento.
