Default something going on with california and sig on the p226?

i was talking to someone and they told me that you can't buy a sig p226 right now due to some breach of contract between sig and cal? is that right? can't find anything about it anywhere.

I see lots of p226's on the roster... some of them come up for renewal soon but for now it appears they are still GTG.

As to their availability... who knows, it might be that most of them have been snatched up and Sig is behind in production, but if you can find one at a LGS or online, you can buy it w/o doing a SSE.

I generally don't believe anything told to me by a gun store employee.

Sig had a bunch of guns on the roster that expired last July. Apparently someone at Sig forgot to renew them. Look at the dates you posted it looks like they got an extension.

In my experience LGSs are the worst possible place to get info on firearms laws/regulations. They probably just don't have any p226's in stock and want you to buy one of the pistols they DO have in stock rather than find a p226 through a different FFL. Maybe I'm just too cynical...

Herb Bauer in Fresno had almost ZERO guns in their cases, it was pitiful. He said that their Sig rep is promising inventory mid to late February.

I just put a deposit on the next SP2022 that comes into their store.

Glad tax season is coming up! I could use the overtime pay for the rest of it haha

There is lots of fud going around.

The gun salesman was likely referring to the fact that Dianne Feinstein is planning on introducing a bill that would ban many common semi automatic firearms, and that California democrats are currently preparing to introduce legislation that would ban all semi automatic firearms with a detachable magazine in the state of California. This obviously includes the P226.

Yes, unfortunately the non railed cannot be sent to California.

I was in the same boat. Got a CZ75BD instead.

I have a CZ75BD and it is an amazing gun (and cheaper than the P226). Only problem is the 10rd version is EXTREMELY difficult to find. Went through hell and high water to find one, but so happy I have it. Ridiculously accurate.

Are 2002 versions German? Aren't they German frame, Stainless Slide, External Extractor and no rail?

Oh and I've only shot a CZ 75 once and it was very nice. Don't really know about durability/reliability, but accurate, nice trigger, fun gun to shoot.

Why can't they be sent to CA? Is there some reason you can't do a single-shot exemption?

You can SSE it if you are willing to pay the SSE fees, tax and transfer.

After all that is said and done with the SSE conversion, you are close to a price of a new gun you can get from local vendors.

I priced it out after SSE Fee, Transfer and Tax it came to the tune of $800 on a $550 p226. Add $100 bucks and you can get basically brand new.

Also if you plan to SSE, it might be hard to convince the vendor to send it to an 07 FFL due to the many hoops to send to California like the CFLC verification letter. When I asked the vendor, he said he would rather not deal with it.

Pretty sure you don't need to send to 07 FFL for SSE. You're not manufacturing. Changing barrel and restricting mag capacity isn't considered manufacturing.

I just went with an 07 FFL because I don't have the parts.

The issue with Sigs was that many models with "R" at the end, which stands for "Rail", dropped off the roster. However, I believe that the only P226 models currently produced are the "R" models.

This effectively makes many of the P226 models unavailable for direct purchase: either they are the current "R" model and not on the roster, or they are the legacy non-"R" models and not produced anymore while still on the roster.

Being 07 FFL has absolutely nothing to do with SSE or parts though. Just don't want someone to start looking up 07 FFL for SSE when it's not necessary for SSE.

There are plenty of 220, 226, and 229s on the roster. Both railed and no railed versions of each.

Sorry my bad. Don't need to beat me up over this.

I did my homework as much as I can.

Thanks for the info.

As for the OP, you can SSE any sig but for $800 OTD after all said and done, it's not really worth it for a used gun IMHO.

As for the breach of contract, it would say its just FUD. Sig right now might be swamped with orders.

I had a stock P226 (frame and slide proofed in Germany) on hold at Ammo Bros., and when I went to start the DROS on it, they pointed out that the only stock-ish P226 on the roster now is the BSS-CA model, which has night sights and apparently the mag disconnect "feature" as well.

So now I have to send it to another place to get it SSE'd, adding another $125+ to the total cost.

All Sigs are railed models if they have that option they don't make them with out a rail anymore.

Maybe they are referring to that the plain jane 226 CA version

P226R (Black) 226R-9-BSS-CA / Stainless Steel; Alloy Pistol 4.40" 9mm

On Sigs website says it now has mag disconnect and the ugly chambered round indicator. I sure hope this isn't the case since I think they let it expire and couldn't get it exempted.

I'll be dammed to buy one that way.
