Gen5 G19 cut out at the bottom of the grip
I carry a Gen5 G19 off duty for a while now. It has a cut out at the bottom of the grip that is uncomfortable ( my hands are medium/ large) , is there anything that can be done about it? I took it out few times for some combat shooting drills and it's really annoying..... My Gen3 and Gen4 19's dont have cut out and fill my hand nicely like a full size gun. Is it just me ? Or is that cut out annoying to other shooters ? I am not experiencing any problem with my duty G17 Gen5 because the grip is longer.

You could always sell it and buy the 19 MOS. At the going rate of gen 5s you could even make some money. Of course it’d be nicer if you just sold it for the cost of acquiring the new model

The cutout's there so that if the mag gets stuck in the gun for whatever reason, you can stick your finger into the cutout and rip the mag out.

Yes, that is a reason FBI wanted that cut out. I understand. I will probably carry my GEN5 17 more and carry a G19 when I need to carry a smaller gun .

I think its too much trouble just because of the cut out. Plus I have no use for MOS.

How about an aftermarket Gen 5 magwell? Seems like it may just cover up the cutout up front.

I've tried the Pearce plates on the Gen 2 and 5's. I don't like them. It's like using the Pearce pinky plates for the sub-compact Glocks. Yes, it closes the gap, but under fire the issue of the sharp edges biting into your fingers depending on handsize/placement still remains.
You can see that the gap is still present in the example photo on Pearce's website. |

Probably the worse decision Glock has made. Should have put it on the sides like Sig in the 320. Plus at the wrong angle the mag will get hung up on the cutout especially under stress. Have you looked at the Glock 45? No cutout longer grip higher capacity.

I just took a little fine grip sandpaper to mine, took the sharp edge of it. Doesn’t bother me anymore.

This is probably the best solution. You really just need to smooth out the sharp contours.

boom lol
people wanted the finger grooves gone, so they delivered on that, but they couldn't leave well enough alone and put that retarded cut out. it's ok to try something new but i feel like nobody tested that before they decided to go with it, cause it's so easy to see how that's not the best way to address the issue of mags not dropping free LOL a lot of people actually did ask for it. for years now people thought they were so clever putting a 19 slide on a 17 frame and thought they had discovered a magical combination. an entire cottage industry grew around creating custom glock frames and slides to fit midsize slides on full frames and full frames on midsize slides. the fact that you could already do that for yourself by purchasing the parts isn't a good argument. manufacturers try to offer things people want and the G45 is exactly that, the glock response to consumer desire to change things up, but offering it from the factory is going to attract people who don't want to deal with doing the work themselves and possibly screwing it up, or spending time collecting parts even if it's easy to do, some people would just rather buy it from glock with the warranty and everything and they'll feel better about that purchase and they're willing to spend a little more for that peace of mind. plus it has front slide serrations - who doesn't like that lol |

It doesn’t bother me in the least and I have huge bear paw hands. You can take a half moon file and gently swipe a few passes over the sharp edge and it will really smooths things out for you. A couple of guys in my office did that with their G19/5’s and they now love that gun.

g45, the answer to what the military and law enforcement have been wanting for decades. Its a service size gun. Almost everyone has one. Also I cant stand glocks.
To OP, sell the gen 5 and get a MOS. Even if you don't use the MOS feature it doesn't change anything with the gun.

Like the OP, I have medium/large hands and the meat of my pinky lands right in the center of the cut out. Interestingly, my Gen 2.? G19 also has a cut out, but it doesn't bother me. It's the combination of the added width of the magwell, and the razor sharp cutout that creates the perfect storm. As others have mentioned, while the magwell is supposed to speed up reloads, it can actually hinder them. Skip to around 7:39: Last edited by AFTII; 01-11-2019 at 1:30 PM.. |

I bought one with a slight undercut and smoothed out the edges on the cut out and it works great!

Here ya go OP. You can kill two birds with one stone. It's "cut out" free...and nowhere near as ugly.

OP I was in the same boat as you and didn't like the feel of the cut out. I just picked up a 19 Gen 5 MOS FS with the full grip and it's a world of difference to me. (the regular MOS still has the cut out, you need a FS version for the full grip) You wouldn't think that small cut out would make any difference at all but it does. I'd suggest what others have said and I did, sell the one with the cut out and buy a MOS FS version. I will never use the MOS feature either, I only bought it for the grip and I'm very happy I did.
