Brand new P226 with mag drop/lock issues, help!
Hey Calgunners,
Picked up my brand new P226-40-SSS today. Cleaned it, lubed it, etc. Put a few snap caps into both mags. It came with two mags. Here is the problem: For one of the mags, when I rack the slide to eject one of the snap caps and the slide slams forward to chamber the next snap cap, the magazine comes loose and begins to slide out. I have tried them both with my thumb completely away from the mag drop, so I know its not a problem with me. One mag functions flawlessly, the other one slides out The other magazine works perfectly. I am guessing this is a problem with the magazine, but I do not know. Does anyone have experience with this? Should I just call Customer Service and see whats good? Thanks, Sabian722 Update: Turns out the mag that isn't working properly doesn't lock in at all. Even without snap caps, or the slide racking forward, the mag can just be pulled out the gun every time. Definitely a defective magazine? |

Sounds like it.
However if you give the magazine a smack from the bottom does it lock in? Generally not an issue for an unloaded magazine. Does it look any different than the other magazine? Not familiar with this gun or it's magazines but usually there is a notch on the magazine that is used to lock it in so I'd focus the inspection there. |

I smack it in, it sounds like it kinda locks, but I shimmy it around from the base plate and it slides right out.
I've checked both magazines at the notch, and they look exactly the same to the naked eye... must be off by just enough to make it not lock in properly. Frustrating, but I hear Sig has great customer service and I can't imagine them not replacing a defective mag. |

It shouldn't come out, when you tug on it, if it is locked in...is it a Checkmate magazine?
Give SIG CS a call and they should take care of you...they might not even want the malfunctioning mag back

I assume it's made by Checkmate, they say Made in USA on the right side, and they came with the gun which was purchased BNIB. Not sure if that means anything.
Is there any way to tell the difference between Mec-Gar or Checkmate? |

Yes, if you call sig about the issue they will allow you to swap your magazines for working ones.
The last person who I saw do this got a sig-factory german made mag as a replacement. |

Good luck getting through to Sig. It's SHOT Show this week. Most companies are overloaded.

SIG will take care of it. They know there are issues on the Checkmate Mags. |
