Default CHFC Fish Fry

The Compton Hunting and Fishing Club is holding its 72nd Annual Fish Fry on July 21 from noon until 5 PM. There is a huge raffle that starts at 5 PM and a Traeger Smoker Grill as a door prize. Live Music. Beer, wine and soft drinks for sale. Sno-cones and popcorn. A jump house and games for the kids - balloon dart board, bean bag toss, Nerf gun range and many others with prizes awarded.

Many are concerned about going to Compton. Remember - we have been there 72 years! We are not far off the 91 or 710 freeways at their junction. We are at the end of a small private industrial street and have 3 acres of private park, a large clubhouse full of taxidermy and other out buildings. We have NEVER had a problem of any kind in 72 years. People are amazed at our grounds and facilities, and no one has ever complained or been disappointed. The usual response is "How do I join?" Google earth 1625 Sportsman Drive, Compton for aerial views. (We own the DTI truck yard between us and the LA River on the east. The southern border is wide open Edison land to the 91 freeway. The northern border is our own RV storage yard and the western border is the 710 freeway. Not much traffic on our street.) Many of our members are local, county and federal law enforcement officers so security is not an issue.

The City of Compton regards us as an oasis (as stated by the City Council when we applied for our liquor license and permits for the event every year) and is very supportive. We invite the local firefighters and law enforcement to come by for a free lunch.

We have between 250 and 300 members, though only 50 or so are pretty active. Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome...just bring potty bags.

Monthly trap and skeet shoots at Triple B's. occasional charter fishing trips (most recent was a twilight trip yesterday,) a trout tournament in Bishop every September. Lots of family activities and we have a youth program through our CHFC Foundation. We had a big 4th of July picnic on the grounds with a free barbecue lunch, etc. A Memorial Day campout at our property in Ventura County every year.

Great fried fish fillets, homemade coleslaw, French fries, homemade tarter sauce, ice cream, snocones, kids games and raffles! Live country music, cold beer, soft drinks and wine. All with like-minded people.

We had a work party this morning to do some of the prep work for the Fish Fry. We have a work party every month as we do most of the maintenance and repairs to our property ourselves, always preceded by a free hearty breakfast for the workers. Today we served pastrami hash, biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs.

Tomorrow is the day. Continuous serving from noon until 5 PM. We have some custom knifemakers who are members and they will sharpen your knife extremely well for $5.

If anyone made it out to our Fish Fry, let me know what you thought. We served 1224 meals, though some of those were take-home meals. Everyone raved about how good everything was.

It was, as usual, a great event.

Food and music is great. Please don't ever change it.

Thanks to all those who volunteered to make it happen.

Thank you for your kind words. I am glad you made it out and enjoyed it. It is the major event of the year for us, along with our Memorial Day and 4th of July campouts and the youth hunts and fishing trips we sponsor. It is a LOT of work and it is rewarding to know people enjoy it.
