So let me see if I have this right. This tool will work on a front and rear sight for a 1911 (Kimber Custom II), even in the hands of someone who's never done any gunsmithing? Or am I better off taking the gun to a shop to have it done?

It does work on them but any tool is only as good as the person using it.

If you have any doubts in your ability to work on a firearm I would not attempt it.

Kimbers can be tough, some have joked that the sights are welded on....not true.

Any idea if this product would be able to adjust the front sight on a Sig Sauer X5 Competition model?

Sig Sauer's own sight tool won't even fit the slide...

Default Sight tool

It will work but I would recommend wider clamping blocks for the front sight, because the step in the slide reduces surface area for clamping.

I could make a set for an additional $2.
They would be 1" wider for a total of 2" for each block.

Btw, I have 4 ready to ship..

Got mine a while back, but I still haven't had the time to use it. I'll give it a shot when I buy some Dawson FO sights and a Heine rear. Thanks dafish.

I'll take 1 if it will work on Springfield Defender with rear sight that may be factory "glued" in place with loctite. Any problem using the tool here? Also heard that heating the sight with hair dryer or shrink tubing heater may loosen up the loctite. Paypal gift OK?

It does work on the Springfields, you must push the sight itself for the front sights because there is no surface to push on the base.

I know a gunsmith that has had to cut a few sights off, a blow dryer won't help.
You need a heat gun and make sure you push it out back the opposite the way it was pushed in.

Paypal is fine.

How will I know which direction the rear sight was pushed in from?

Default Sight direction

The dovetail tapers from one side to the next.

In some cases you can see I slight mark or discoloration on the dovetail base where the sight slid across when pressed in.
