media dust inside cassings after tumbling

Hello all

Well I'm brand spanking new to reloading and have been tumbling my once fired .308 brass mostly American eagle. and as I'm sure you've guessed by now after tumbling the cases until they are nice and shiny the inside of the cases are covered in dust from the media. I'm using Lyman tufnut walnut media I was wondering if anyone has a good way of getting this dust out of the cases before I continue on with the reloading process.

A lot of people mix walnut with corn and that way there's no dust.

Put a few used laundry sheets, bounce or which brand you use, and this will reduce dust dramatically. Also use a lil polish and it will help the media absorb the dust.

Take a cotton swab and carefully and meticulously clean each one till shiney inside, or just load them...

Dryer sheets and polish or use an air compressor when the brass is in your separator...

Leave the dust in there!
It acts as a good dry lube for the neck expander button during sizing and for the bullet during seating.
I actually tumble brand new brass to get some dust in there before I neck size them to get the necks nice and round.
When I don't tumble the cases, I get problems with brass galling on the expander button.

This and some mineral spirits added (couple teaspoons) or isopropyl alcohol will reduce dust.

Also, brand new media will be dusty initially and stop being so after a couple uses.

My media actually doesn't dust all that much, but I use polish with it, maybe that helps.

If I were really worried about it I'd use an air gun with my compressor to blow it out, which actually isn't a bad idea if I could remember where the heck I put it!

Seriously though, a fresh dryer sheet works wonders in with your tumbling media. Try it out and report back!

Some people think that the dust is a bad thing, that the ash left behind can hurt the bore when the next round is fired. Personally, I don't think it could be any worse than the carbon left behind when the powder burns, it's all on fire anyway...

If you have the time:
1. Polish, car.
2. Dryer Sheets
3.Compressor with small tip it will take you time but.......... you will feel the dust and dirt blow out on to your hand.

I ignore the dust. When that cartridge fires and the powder ignites, what difference will that dust make?
