I usually keep my Calguns browsing to the Marketplace and sometimes the 2nd Amendment section, but browsing some of the other sections has been pretty disappointing. I find that a significant number of threads are flooded with overtly or thinly veiled xenophobia and several pretty sweeping generalizations. I'm not really sure what stance mods take on this and of course some of it is subjective. Whether or not it's the mods job necessarily to look out for this stuff is also unknown to me, but it's there and doesn't require too much digging to find.

I did not take the time to read all 21 pages of suggestions, so mine may be a repeat...

I would suggest splitting the marketplace firearms for sale into several categories. Possibly handguns, rifles, shotguns, cannons(jk), etc.

Thanks

Calguns is more or less what the users make it. Most of the really overt and offensive stuff gets removed as per the rules, but other than that the moderation is fairly "hands off".

I'm not sure what the fix is but here's the problem. After writing a long and detailed reply in one of the forums I hit the Submit Reply button and was told that I had been logged off (I guess I took too long spell checking my reply) and that I had to log in, and then I was told to hit the back button to resubmit my relpy, but when I did that my reply was gone, nothing there but a blank Reply to Thread page. I couldn't get my reply back or find it anywhere. What a bummer, it's like having your computer crash before you save your term paper to disk... well... almost that bad.

Include A bullet casting section in "Outdoors and Acessories"

I think there will be more and more people trying to cast in the near future. IMHO

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but is it possible to split the Private Sales Section into regions? Something like Northern, Central, and Southern? It is sad whenever I see something nice in Sacramento. It should also help to keep people's posts on the first page.

dont know if its been asked but what about a separate category for gun sales that Are cash and carry only that way you dont have to look at all the hand guns if you looking for old rifles etc.

Fixing the broken home page might be a good thing . . . it's in pretty horrible shape. The HTML code is awful and there's some javascript issue with Google's Gadget search application.

A knife specific section. Calguns is my favorite forum by far, but I still have to go to bladeforum to get my blade forum fix. If calguns had it all I would not need any other forum. Since I live in CA it's nice to be able to talk to other people in CA who are under the same types of laws/restrictions as I am. People in other states have some sort of superiority complex because they don't need bullet buttons etc...

Funny, I was looking for information on knives and thought "I'll bet Calguns has a knife forum" and sure enough we didn't. Came here to suggest one but it looks like I got beaten by 12 days

By having a search preference of searching titles and saving it, so I do not have to keep on going to advanced search.

A quick search.

Allow to search for words that are under 3 letters, I think that is the cut off.

I know this was mentioned before but maybe make an AR and AK forum so its a little easier to search?

Also what about a forum that our representatives can hear our voice and opinion on gun laws. Obviously letters and phone calls work but if they can see our discussions it might get their wheels turing more when new bills are introduced?

As I stated in this thread, I believe it would be VERY beneficial for the banner ad to be added to our banner ads centered and directly above where it says CALGUNS.NET, that way it stands out and we hopefully get lots of signatures.

I know this is probably a tall order, and I dont write code so I am probably asking for something that is harder than I can imagine to be done but....

Wouldn't it be cool if the market place wasn't just a forum, but like a listing? For example, while putting your item for sale, you have to fill in fields for what it is (firearm, optic, magazine, etc...) then fields for caliber, make, model, price, etc. Then the marketplace could retain its firearm, firearm accesories, and non-firearm related divisions, and say you click on firearms, you would be directed to all the listings with the options of filtering results by make, caliber, model, price, etc (all the fields that the lister had to fill in). Then some kind of search engine where you could type in what you are looking for and BOOM, you find exactly what you need.

I know its probably asking for more than can be done, but if it could be done, wow, the market place would be much more efficient. Hell, I would pay a buck everytime I bought something just to be able to use a system like that (and that could cover development fees, and extra $ could go to CGN foundation)

Assign someone to specifically answer vendors when they have questions about the forums, a la banner ads and vendor sub forums. We've got enough stuff to start a subforum, and I know red's been bugger Kes forever, but he's gotten zero reply about it.

This might have been mentioned already but it's just a thought I had while browsing. What if in the for sale section rules it was put as a suggestion to make sure that when you are writing the description or title one doesn't abbreviate brands or companies? I don't know maybe that's too many rules but it seems to me like a lot of people put things like "rem" "remi" "kim" etc and when you read that those most people see Remington or Kimber but when searching for things it can miss those results.

I know it doesn't really follow the KISS rule and I know there are already so many rules in the for sale section that people don't follow but I thought it might be nice because I think some people just aren't aware of the fact that "rem 870" might be a lot lower in the search results than "remington 870."

Somewhat like that, but maybe in sparkling letters. Blinking would work too.
On a side note, seems like there are some CalGunners out there who like to give newbies a hard time.
Is it cause you were harassed when you first joined? Or maybe a embedded need to tear other around you down to make yourself feel better??? Were you not loved as a child?
