I was thinking more down the lines of a nice Walnut stock. Different strokes (I suppose).
I would like a walnut stock too for RAR. Actually my main preference is wood a day steel. I have a budding mil-surp collection that started with a Finnish M39 with a recent down payment on a Enfield 1917.

Also I am highly offended that you would think I would use a quad rail. I, as a tacticool guy, knows M-LOK is where it's at. Though apparently not tacticool to use a Kel-Tec or Mini-14 but that's another story.

Yup certain things absolutely won't work for HD. Like Keymod or God forbid a standard non-free-floating plastic handguard and D-RING (barf). SU-16's are so light they feel handy, but look too in-between some milsurp and something hi-tech... some guys wouldn't be caught dead practicing with something like that. I know lots of new shooters who would rather have a Bullet Button than something more functional that doesn't look like COD. I've showed kids pics of featureless AR's when they ask what they can do to comply... and they say, "Not for me! (I'm too cool to rock something that looks like that)!" A mini-14 for HD?? No way those will work 3-10 yards away in the house! They can't even make a .5" group at 100.

I just wanted something that could take AR-15 magazines that wasn't Kel-Tec which pretty much narrows my down my choices.

If Ruger makes a wood stock for this I hope it comes with good checkering instead of... Whatever the hell design they have on the plastic stock.

Manufacturers learned how to do good textures - at least for good grip. My Synthetic Mossberg, S&W, Ruger, Glocks, Walther, etc... all have great grip on the new designs. Do they LOOK awesome? I dunno, subjective. Maybe my old Mini-14 synthtic wasn't too grippy... I think the butler Creeks were better.

The Mossberg checkering on synthetic is almost painful, and I like sandpaper.

Doggone it!
I'm working toward getting better groups using cheap 55g fmjbt's but I brought out a box of $6/20 PMC bronze and it still shoots way better. I'll keep trying.

Go get this gun guys! With the AR mags, it will be a really fun gun.

100 yards old style $320 Ruger American Ranch with the 5 round mag
$7 Walmart scope mounts, $20 Burris 3-9x40 scope

i knew i would never have the funds for a high end target rifle in 223. It was a toss up between a Ruger american and the Savage axis. I had good luck with Savage in the past so i bought a Savage econo axis in 223. did a polish job on the trigger and cut 1 1/2 coil on the spring. Crisp clean 3 lb break. It is very accurate as i expected. Going to do some custom loads and see how sub moa i can do. I like and own Ruger guns and i do think Ruger knows what the shooting public wants better than anybody.

Sounds like a solid foundation, hahahah. Where do you get a $20 Burris, and does it last longer than a $90 BSA, BEC, or Tasco? How does it track? Perfect I bet.

You're on the right track. I'm assuming that you are talking about the bullet and not the round when you say "cheep FMJ's". You should get closer to that PMC group once you get your FPS up.

I bought it on sale at Sportsmans Warehouse a couple of years ago on one of their Black Friday sales. I've been using it on an Optima V2 Muzzleloader for range shooting only with a few hundred rounds through it. The shots have the recoil about as good as a stout .308 load but I also bounce the butt on the ground each time I dump the powder down the muzzle so it's had a fair amount of knocking about.

It's a plain-Jane 30-30 reticle with no BDC but it holds zero fine and works great at 100 yards. Tracking is very good from 3-9X and the focusing also holds zero (at least as good as 1" @ 100 yards)

I've had good luck with BSA (used 2 each of their Deer Hunter's and Sweet 22's) but haven't used a Tasco since my BB gun days during the last millennium.

Default Ruger American 223/556

I picked mine up last week had a cheap simmons 44 mag scope in the garage and just put 50 rounds of Federal TRU ammo through it. This is prone at 50 yards on a rest..not bad at all....1 inch square

I had a BSA that died, Bushnell died, BEC died. Still have a tasco on a CO2 BB gun (1077). Best of the bunch of cheap stuff is a Simmons 44Mag still on a 10/22.

FYI, I contacted Magpul. I asked them:

Quote:
Will the Hunter American Stock:
https://www.magpul.com/products/hunt...n-short-action

Be compatible with the newest version of the Ruger American Rifle that accepts AR-style magazines?
https://ruger.com/products/americanR...ets/26965.html
This is what they wrote back:

Quote:
Our Hunter American short action stock will not be compatible with AR style magazines. You will need to use the AICS pattern magazine that comes with the stock or, one of similar design.
Bummer. Maybe if this newest Ruger American becomes their most wildly successful model, Magpul will come out with an updated stock?

Production must be low, these rifles sell out fast online and I've never seen one locally.

The question now is, I've never sold a bolt gun! I don't even know how to advertise it lol. To the commercial section I go!
