Fantastic setup. I just have one question. What is that in your handguard that looks so much like an AFG but is way cooler

Notice how most 80% builds on this thread are pistols.
1. (My understanding is) buying a 100% completed AR lower receiver for a build is DROS'ed as a "long gun/rifle" receiver, not a pistol (because a stripped AR lower receiver cannot pass CA's handgun "safety" tests to get on the DOJ list, plus the thousands of $$'s in fees). In order to have an AR pistol, or any DOJ "off-list" pistol, one needs to SSE (single-shot exempt) it, register it, which can then later be modified to "regular" configuration, less "assault weapon" features of course. (It's easy to SSE an AR pistol, block the magazine well and remove the gas tube). You can buy an SSE exempt AR pistol, or build it yourself. It's more satisfying, and more customizable, to build one yourself. 2. Making a long gun/rifle from an 80% lower, no record of it. It's a beautiful thing.

That upper is a .22lr upper. I have a pistol lower for it as well which was built off an 80% lower.

- No need to register homebuilt pistols, they are no different than long guns in this regard. I proudly have kept my AR pistol receiver 100 percent blank. - no need to remove the gas tube to SSE, maglock and sled are plenty.

Thanks. If it was done with enough precision by a highly-skilled engraver (so that it was exact in every detail of the original) - it would be one of the most awe-inspiring roll marks ever to be placed on a lower. Agreed?
BTW, the Misfits death's head would be much simpler to do, but would have some pretty amazing impact as well. S**t, before the lower was to be anodized (O.D.) have the model name (or larger engraving on the right side of the mag well) be "GREEN HELL".........

due to a about .002" mine has some issues with the trigger/disconnector. seriously considering getting a bolt upper for it, and finishing another lower for my upper, but pistolizing it first

There's a mill in soquel for $900 on Craigslist, and he will deliver. There is also a Jet mill bench model for $1000 with some tooling in Los Gatos.
You can also buy a Chinese made mill for about 2/3rds the price from www.littlemachineshop.com and even pick it up in person if the freight will cost more than the fuel. You'll find lots of little projects after you have it set up and running. Always seems to happen. |
