Default Svt 40

Ran into this rifle at a police forced sale at a gun shop so I bought it.
It is a 1942 SVT40 with Tula markings, Russian rebuild, force matched and a mirror bore. I have a question about the gas adjustment if anybody knows. Will I need to more than likely have to adjust it when changing to different kinds of ammo? Here are some pics it,

This was in SLO on the central coast. I gave 550.00 and from what I have been seeing a pretty good deal.
I also got a M1 Carbine made by Standard Products for 450.00, same condition and bore also shines like a mirror.

Anyone have any info on the gas adjustment or tool?

One more pic,

So where's the pic of the bayo?

When you described it over the phone, it sounded pretty good. Looks better than I thought it would. Yes, you'll need to adjust the gas for each type of ammo you shoot and possibly change it depending on the temps outside. Start low, work high. Take a rubber mallet to the range as a too low setting won't eject the shell and can instead lock up your rifle. No fun. Black Hills Gunsmithing has well made repro tools for $14.95 shipped.

The carbine....wow..great deal. When you break it down, please tell me what manufacturer stamp is on the trigger group housing. I might have a deal for you.

Yes you may need to adjust the gas valve with different types of ammo

You better not get cheap and run surplus corrosive into that or I'll beat you with a stick.

Thats a great price, and a great rifle. Besides the dragonov/SVD, its really the only rifle you can aquire thats semi and takes 7.62x54R.

Maybe so, but the G43's system is fragile and replacement parts non-existent. I would rather have something I'm not afraid to shoot for fear of breaking it.

San Luis Obispo

To answer the next question: "Where can I find a SVT40?" SVT40s are rare to find in the wild. There have not been imports of them in a good many years. Gunbroker.com or Auctionarms.com might be your best shot.

I have heard they don't last to long when someone puts one up for sale. How much have you seen the bayo go for?

My scabbard looks different, mine is more pointed with a ball end. It also has a diamond shape with a 49 within it.
