.223/5.56 reloading bullet of choice?
I've been shooting pretty much only Hornady (first the 40gr Vmax, then the 53gr Amax). A friend of mine handed me off a couple rounds loaded with Sierra 50gr Blitzkings which shot a bit better.
So... what is your bullet of choice? I would have made a poll, but there are more brands than I know.

Depends on the twist of your barrel. The faster the twist the heavier the bullet. I've got a 1/8 24" and I've been shooting 55 grain PSP and FMJ, now that I've put a few rounds through it I'm going to load some 69, 77 and 80 grain HPBT

All I use is 55gn FMJBT. But when I start shooting more precision stuff I will probably go with a 69 grain or so bullet.

Since most of my shooting is less than 100 yards and at steel, I just buy bulk 55g FMJBT from Hitech Ammo (new manufacture). They are cheap and usually available.
The small amount of precision shooting I have done is out of an 18" Wilde barrel and iirc i had really good ouch with some 77g Nosler, but I would need to check my notes, it's need a little while.

I figured that an accurate bullet is an accurate bullet. I don't hunt, so expansion and whatnot don't come into it.

Does a heavier bullet wear out the barrel faster, I wonder? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't go nuts chasing velocity, just find a reasonable load and make mass quantities. Do heavier (longer) bullets wear the barrel faster? That I don't know. I just have a hard stop of 6k rounds before I retire a barrel. I've only had one that went kaput after only 2.5k. It happens... |
