Buy the Ruger branded AICS mags, about $10-15 cheaper per mag and the mags are from a Ruger Gunsite
You have to deal with the Ruger logo though Last edited by TZL; 01-15-2013 at 8:35 PM.. |

morta mags are an option, my bottom metal came with one. after feeding issues i proceeded to buy the accuracy international mags (the real ones) and the morta mag doesn't leave the house.
buy once cry once...per mag.

AICS and cheap can't be used in the same sentence.

Just make sure you are NOT buying the polymer ones, those are not compatible w/o alot of modification. My advice, buy once cry once..wait for them to be instock at Midway and use a coupon

Alpha mags work great(for me anyway), but they aren't cheap. You've got the wrong rifle if you're expecting cheap magazines.
I had a horrible experience with what I believe was a c-products mag... damn thing never seemed to want to seat correctly and rounds sliding past the feed lips felt like I was running them across the sidewalk. |

I must have gotten lucky because my cproduct 10 rnd mags feed fine (a little stiff on the springs) but no feeding issues during comps or practice they each were $50 from midway when on sale!

There are Ruger METAL mags made by Alpha Industries that are AICS compatible out of the box, and yes, NOT the polymer ones

I can't speak for the reliabilty/longevity, but GA Precision shipped one AI and three Accurate Mags to me for my .300 WM built with the Badger Ordnance "M5 DBM." Be advised that I've only put 35 rounds through the rifle and maybe 25 rounds total out of the Accurate Mags.
The Accurate Mags have a metal body and I'll go out on a limb and say that they're just as robust as the AI mags. The Accurate Mags have a different follower, though; the rear edge has a bevel so that once the mag's empty, you can still close the bolt. The AI mags/followers that I've seen have a straight 90* rear edge so that once the mag's empty, the follower will act as a bolt stop. Unless you plan on doing "rapid fire" out of the bolt gun and losing track of rounds fired, the Accurate Mags' beveled follower shouldn't be a problem. If you're afraid of losing track and don't wanna get stuck with an empty mag, go for the AI mags. HTH. -Carl |

I have had problems with all of the AICS clone mags at one time or another.
Now I only use genuine AI mags and I don't have problems. In my opinion, saving $15 is not worth it when you end up throwing them away later because they suck... Buy the real deal.

Short action AI mags do not stop the bolt when the mag is empty.

Trying to save $15 is just not worth it. $15 is about 25 rounds of 308 or 15 rounds of match 308. The cost of the mag should be tiny in comparison to the ammo you're running through it. |

Another thing to consider...
5 round mags are way better than 10 round mags. People buy the 10 round mags because they look cool hanging down but when you really start using the gun, you will soon learn that the 10 round mags stick down so much that you can not drop one and put another one in without lifting up the gun off the rear bag or bipod. Breaking position with the gun means you are off target. For precision rifle matches, I bring 5 mags, three 5 rounders and 2 ten rounders. I use the 5 rounders 95% of the time.
