Seems like most of you are taking CCW training after your first application date, is that because you're worried about the background check or your good cause not going through?
I am planning on taking my CCW course in late February, but the first open date for an appointment is June 1, so it'll be a while. I don't see my background check finding anything, the only thing I would potentially get denied on is good cause. But then, they are accepting "self defense" as good cause, aren't they? |

Received my approval letter today. I was in the January 12 review group.
For those that want to really geek out, my letter was dated for Jan 13th (day after review) and the envelope was dated for Jan 19th. Last edited by jzapara; 01-22-2011 at 4:27 PM.. |

JT1989: Back last September when I applied, there was still some disbelief in self defense as adequate good cause but those uncertainties have clearly been dismissed. Also, some people were saying that a training certificate was only valid for 90 days, but it appears Wes received confirmation that it's good for a year (posted earlier in this thread, I belive). I think you can schedule your training any time you'd like.

I just received my approval from Sac Sheriff today. My original appt was on 12-23-10. I understand the committee meet on 1-12-11. I noticed my check was cashed 2 days ago. Now off to get the livescan done as soon as possible.

I can't find the days and hours that livescan is open. Actually got the hours for Rockingham Station. Now I assume these are only open mon-fri but could be wrong. Anyone have which days they are open?
Thanks for any and all assistance. |

Picked up my permit this morning from the post office!!!!!!
I trimmed the edges a bit, and it fits perfectly in my wallet. Keep in mind this is a slim wallet made for only a few cards, ID and some cash. I use this wallet from eBags.com: http://www.ebags.com/product/dopp/re...uctid=10109341

They are open Mon-Fri from 9 to 5 i think it is, but they are closed at lunch time. if you call the number it usually goes to a automated recording telling you this. I cant remeber what time they are closed for lunch but I know I went there at 9:00 and was out at 9:15 or so. Very fast.

City of Sac Residents
If you watch this vid starting at 1 hour 14 minutes and 20 seconds, it sounds like the Sheriff made a 'gentlemens agreement' with the Sac City Police chief to not issue permits to city residents. Anyone else hear about this? The video is from a City workshop held yesterday.

Just dropped my application and in the first part going over the paperwork the detective mentioned that all of the local police where complianing about the relaxation of the good cause requirement, and all it will take to change is a couple of stupid people with ccw's doing something dumb to make the sherriff change his mind. Didn't want to go down that path with him at that time but, I did find it interesting.

This was an Op-Ed in yesterday's Bee regarding the issuance of CCW's by the Sheriff:

Thanks. It's hard to make out his comments clearly but it sounds like he says "we had a gentleman's agreement"....and that they are going to get together over a cup of coffee ....we talked yesterday.....and work out this issued weapons permit issue....
Hopefully, Jones will tell him that he's following the law and that he Braziel better wake up! |

I recall reading someone did just that with success recently. If you have the time to kill why not?

I dont see any reason why it hurts to emphasize that a CCW permit holder must be responsible and exercise extreme care and judgment before drawing their weapon. I just hope they are not looking for any reason to turn this thing over on our faces due to one persons bad decision! You know that even if the use of deadly force is justified, the rest of us are going to have to put up a hell of a fight to renew.

I'm a Paramedic. I also have a LOT of education that Paramedics do not get. Put a Paramedic on a stand-by at a sporting event and they'll quickly be out of their league... yet often they believe that only they can provide adequate emergency and injury care in the pre-hospital environment. Same kind of thinking and belief. Bottom line is that regardless of the commission of a stupid event or two by a CCW holder, it won't change the process. Why? Because the Sheriff is already effectively under court order (to get the lawsuit dismissed) and I don't think Sheriff Jones really wants to go back to Court with a re-activated lawsuit when the plaintiff would have even "more ammo" to be used at trial or in an MSJ filing to further force him to do what he's already required to do. I'm sure that he's long been reading the legal "tea leaves" and has a VERY good idea what the outcome of that case would have been... which is why Sheriff McGinness caved when he did. |

I'm thinking that the Chief of Police may need a little letter on CGF letterhead that kindly asks him to recognize the reality of Salute v. Pitchess and a gentlemen's agreement between Mr. Gura, and Mr. Jones...

Or perhaps Mr. Jones will inform him of that and save you the postage.

I would certainly hope that Mr. Jones advises the Sac PD Chief that his hands are effectively tied... Such a thing would certainly save some postage and some paper from the CGF.
