Default Identify this barrel!

I picked up an upper from a user here on the forums but it was mislabeled in the post which leads me to believe I may have something else.

Can anyone identify this with certainty? I'm concerned that it may not support both 223 and 556 as advertised.

20" stainless barrel with no markings on the upper.

The only markings on the barrel are:
SS
W
1/8

1/8 Wylde would be my guess. Isn't there a way to measure the chamber?

That's my problem here, I have no tools for measuring. I really can't believe that barrels don't have the caliber stamped on them! Should I take this to a gun smith for proper identification?

yeah, probably. You could also try the gunsmithing section here on the forums. I bet you'd get a good answer there.

Leads me to believe its. 223 wylde, which will safely run 5.56. Take it to a Smith though.

if you are still leary have a 'smith do a chamber cast and check the dimensions, but looks good to go to me ...

So the "W" definitely stands for Wylde and not Wilson?

If you got a wylde barrel you're the luckiest guy ever. Free ribs + cheap upper = great day.

"W" wouldn't necessarily stand for Wilson or Wylde. I have a .223 Wylde barrel made from a Wilson blank, and all it says is "1/8 SS." It really just depends on what the maker wants to put on there.

That looks very much like a national match barrel. In that case the W would likely mean Wylde. Take a closer photo of the front sight.

I've already identified the dog hair coming from a pug/beagle mix but any extra help on this barrel will be much appreciated!
