Default This is why I like hybrid IWB holsters

All Kydex would be stiff and nonconforming. All leather can often collapse. The hybrid molds to your body but maintains the opening.

Try an Alien gear holster, i’d be willing to bet you find it even more comfortable than that leather or horsehide. Love mine so far...

I don't like neoprene, but the concept is the same in terms of form fitting.

There are pluses and minus. If your happy that is all that matters, but often if your carrying a compact or sub compact, Sig P238/938, Glock 43, Shield, LCP, J-frame the hybrid is what your concealing not the gun, much less holster even all kydex if done right will be more comfortable.

Additionally the hybrid can be very risky if the gun has external safeties on the leather side of the frame. i.e. 1911, Decockers, etc. More than one person has thought they were locked and cocked only to find out they were safety off. Gun type, gun size matter.

We need to remember the hybrid was a cheaper answer to what John Bianchi had done using kydex inside leather holsters lined with suede. Someone figured out they could do without the extra work. Quality of leather or composite is the key to the quality of they hybrid holster and is the price driver. At the time the Hybrid was developed Kydex was more expensive,(Its originally an aircraft interior material) the availability of molds was limited, and good heating techniques were still in work.

Again if it works for you that is what matters. If at all possible (without spending money) try as many different styles as you can.

I bought an Alien Gear 3.0 for my G26, and although it is very comfortable, it is a big pain in the ***** to put on and take off. I ended up with an inexpensive kydex clip style holster (IWB). I added a homemade leather sweat guard and love it. Recently I replace the clip with the snap loops and this made it stay in place better (3:00-3:30 ish). Those loops really grab my belt and don't allow it to shift. The leather sweat guard is really molding to my body and I can forget the 26 is there.

I loved the Alien Gear Cloak Tucks for my full and compact 1911's as well as for my Taurus 85 snubby. Only problem with them was it turned out I'm allergic to neoprene. Switched to Crossbreed and never looked back. I've had zero issues with safeties becoming unlocked and I carry every day.

The best I've found so far. I would think leather once it breaks in would be very similar. The G43 and the G19 respectively.

Holsters are like blond vs brunette, but I will say I like my milt sparks leather holsters, and that a good leather holster will be reinforced and not collapse.

Also, I feel the need to mention nobody ever lost a gunfight by being slowed to reholster. I don’t see the critical need for easy reholstering, but, again, a good holster permits it.

Do you use that spray lubricant stuff stealth gear recommends you spray inside the kydex? That kind of turned me off from them, as I figured it would attract dust etc...

I do not. Enough garbage gets in there anyway... like you said I just figured it would attract (more) dust and lint.

+1 on Stealthgear Ventcore. Been using it with a G43 in the AZ heat and it's been very comfortable. Like it so much that I just ordered another one for my P365

I find this true in my situation. I carry a Sig P238 in a simple kydex and sometimes forget its there.

The trick is trying not to go broke finding the right combo. It took more than a few tries for me to get it right, but you but when you do its very rewarding.

OP, from your pic it looks like you could improve your comfort significantly by tweaking the kydex flange. Heat up the corner and lessen it to a 70 or 80 degree angle.

Also, can't tell from the pic but it kinda looks like you can trim the leather under the forward clip and get better fit when squatting/bending over.

That is actually why my store exists, and why we do the two gun shows, and three police shows we do. All we carry are concealed carry systems, and we offer personal consultations, and a chance to try before you buy. (by appt).

It's also why we ask our clients to bring their guns, and current holster(s), and tell us what their current rig is not doing for them. Health issues, body type, carry environment all play a role in selecting a system.

When selecting it's important to understand where a particular system might not work in a fight, to assure it doesn't cause pain there are some serious injuries that can be caused by a poor fitting holster, or belt. Dispel some myths, you actually don't need a belt to carry many guns depending on the holster design. Stuff like that. There are people in this forum that can attest that we have helped them make their existing holster work, and provided them insight on a good fit, all without trying to sell them something. Others can attest that we have sold them their favorite holster. Ultimately we believe your choice of carry system is a life or death choice, that will get tested in the worst 1.5 seconds of your existence and thus needs to be selected based on many more criteria than what gun you carry.

If a client goes to a carry system specialist (essentially a CCW tailor) to be fitted / advised, the shoe box full of holsters can be avoided. Unfortunately many people simply wont spend the little bit of time required, just like they wont train, compete to enhance their skill set.

Another Stealth Ventcore user (mini). I do not use the lube they sell; agreed I could see it attracting dust/etc. It is a very comfortable rig IWB with great retention. I went with the standard plastic clips and they are holding up well.

I also thought all kydex IWB holsters would be stiff & uncomfortable...until I tried one. I found that if the back is curved, & they're positioned in the right place, they are very comfortable.

Stealthgear ventcore here too. Never gets sweaty and is as comfortable as it gets.

I hesitate to say “use what works for you” if the user has not had any serious instruction, or if the user considers comfort as the number one criteria.

For example if after some wear the hybrid back starts to roll out, or when he pistol is out the users love handles push the backing over... and the user has to angle the gun to push the backing back in order to reholster, thereby pointing the gun at their pelvis... that holster is an unsatisfactory solution even if the user says they are happy with it.

I don’t know of any leading instructors who recommend hybrid holsters. What does that say?

Started with Crossbreed and Comp-Tac hybrid behind the hip holsters. Now I am partial to mostly kydex AIWB. On rare occasion I'll run a nylon like a Desantis Superfly or a Remora. I don't get the Alien Gear love, they aren't unique nor the original, and they are ginormous. Guess just cheap. Comp-Tac Minotaur is a earlier, higher quality holster of what Alien Gear does with a much smaller profile.

Grantar2 is right on. I've holstered condition 1 and the end of the day found the gun worked itself into condition 0.

I really like my crossbreed mini for my 43. The only downside is that the kydex or whatever material they use is very this. I could see it breaking eventually but who knows.

Does anybody know who the company is that makes a hybrid almost identical to the crossbreed but offers replaceable shells? Saw one a while back and have never seen it again. Not Aliengear

just like with many other things, care and maintenance and practice all matter and impact the usefulness of an item.

for me a holster's comfort is very important, because if it is not comfortable the likelihood of not carrying goes up. My body type does not allow for appendix carry.

i practice with my CCW often but I usually use the factory holster due to using during an indoor action pistol league and the behind the hip position of my crossbreed is in an "unsafe" for such use. So I practice dry with it or out on BLM land.

It seems that a lot of CCW practices & gear are quite intertwined. If you don't mind me asking, what firearm were you using when this occurred?

One of the really important keys is to practice dry fire with the cloths you are going to be wearing most the time. Some people practice in gun clothes but wear three piece suits, or business casual with tucked shirts. Your practice has to accurately portray real world conditions. That is why I ask my clients during a consultation or fitting to wear what they wear regularly that gives them the hardest time concealing or drawing. We then fit them from there.
