I need to plan my own ammo collection event. Without the restriction on caliber or variety. I’ll even pick it up.

I love how they tell you you have to remain in your vehicle. It makes it easier for cops to record your plate.

Just a little too far to go to the event and buy up all the unwanted rounds.
Oh well...

My cousin posted it on FB. I told him to exactly that. He and his sister have complaining about not being able to get ammo.

Haha um what? It’s like paying to dispose of your own gun.

Hey the first pound is free...

I bet they will dispose of it with tiny explosions.

Only factory loaded ammo. Haha, even they do not trust someone else's reloads.

Hmm, anyone sitting on cans of old vintage Thunderbolts? I remember paying $0.50/box for those in the 90’s... might be about equal.

Doesn't a "buyback" require the giver to get some money back?

**********
They are accepting only factory rounds of .50 caliber and 8-gauge or less. No black powder, military munitions, fireworks, or explosives are accepted. No other waste materials are accepted during the event.
***********

This is kind of suspect because basically they are only asking for common ammo.

A truly community safety based program would accept all forms of hazmat material.

If you don't want your ammo, just leave it at the range

They need an FFL to do the transfer...and the background check needs to be performed...and the receiving party needs to own the caliber gun that the ammo is for...

And they need to pull their heads outa their arses so they can see...

I think I have had 4 friends / acquaintances give me unknown Ammo

Somehow they ended up with it

One girl had 3 12 gauge shells in jar next to her stove. Someone had left them behind years ago

Probably lots of people with some random ammo in their place.

You're not far off. The agency will dispose of it by transferring it to a third-party. It most likely will not be destroyed. The ammo will end up in the hands of others. If you know people in LE, you might learn of it.

It’s won’t be destroyed or recycled. Hence, no reloads wanted.

Like someone’s said, it may be sold to a third party.

It’d be interesting if they get much turnout.

Lol what a joke of a “program”. They’re graciously offering free for the first five pounds?!? Feel like they’re not even hiding the fact it’s a confiscation.

I had a few spare rounds of 9mm (no longer own a 9mm firearm) along with a couple pieces of brass with poorly seated primers or other issues. Figured I’d drop it by the police station to dispose of to save me the hassle. They did indeed run my license. 0/10 would not repeat. I love following rules, even when I disagree with them. I hate dealing with cops.

This post reminds me...

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of you that I am accepting your ammo turn-ins from, well, now, until December 31, 2062.

Donations are limited to 500 rds per day so don't delay.

No way they want the liability of storing/transporting random explosives of unknown origin and stability. Factory loaded ammo is pretty "safe". People would show up with blasting caps, old rotting fireworks, reloads with black powder and poorly seated bullets falling out and spilling the powder. What a nightmare.

The county said on their Solid Waste webpage that all of the ammunition collected goes to a licensed hazardous waste facility where it will be incinerated.

Call me cynical but I would not be surprised if someone came up with a business model where they convince some municipality that they will graciously help them to rid themselves of evil gun ammunition by helping that municipality collect and dispose of said evil ammo. They probably realized that the revenue they could generate from the sale of the collected ammo is more than the costs to collect the ammo. The fools at the municipality see this as nothing but altruistic behavior, so why not? After all, this is so good for the children. Or more likely, the municipality’s officials know that this firm is simply doing this for profit, and maybe they even get a share, but at least they can spin this to their constituents that they are doing something altruistic.

And to top it off, they came up with the brilliant idea that they can lay some of the collection costs onto the constituents themselves. After all, the county is doing the constituents a service.

The whole thing comes across as being quite pathetic.

What a faulking hoax.

Come give us your $1+ a round ammo and if you have a lot we charge only $5 a pound.

Who'd be stupid enough to do that??
