Default custom made religious things/art/stuff

i like to think of myself as a moderately creative person, cant draw worth a darn, but give me things to craft with or a computer to edit with and i can turn out some decent work. done alot of stuff with shotgun shells, creating mods for the sims 4, some photo editing bla bla bla. after noticing some problems with one of my Nenju's, due to a cheap weak cord i decided to craft one that could take a extreme amount of use and abuse without breaking stretching out coming undone or deforming in any way.

took about 5 different designs to get it right, but i think this is the one. 27 stainless steel beads, the guru bead and markers are brass to give it a bit of color variation without sacrificing strength and the cord holding it together is 550 paracord.

hardest part was tying the correct loop and 2 strands. figuring out that know was a real head scratcher. in the end it's not the fanciest knot but it works. it's got weight and the paracord makes this Nenju rock solid. the knots don't come undone, the cord does not stretch out, deform or fray, this thing can and will survive just about anything. does not require the use of a protective bag for carrying it around, just throw it on your wrist or in your pocket and you are good to go. been carrying it around and using it daily for a few months and have experienced 0 problems. still the same as the day i finished making it.

so have you ever made religious art/things/other stuff? if so share your work.

about that, the number is not important. malas have alwase been made either in 108, 27, or 18 counts and the japanese schools went a little different with their beads preferring smaller or compact malas instead of the larger strings. Jodo shu split the 108 in half creating 2 smaller loops that are used together in some fancy way with a near genius system of keeping count on them. the idea in Jodo shinshu is that the spirit of mindfulness and gratitude in which the words “Namo Amida Butsu” (nembutsu) are recited is more important than the number of recitations, that's why we call them Nenju for mindfulness beads instead of juzu for counting beads. 27 beads is the perfect size, fits over the wrist or over both hands during practice and can be carried around daily super easily.

funny thing is the way the cord is tied off with a loop and 2 strands holds more hidden "meaning or representation" than the number of beads. The loop is seen to represent the cycle of birth & dying; and the end strings represent the 'cutting' or severing of the cycle of birth & dying.

issue i have is that the majority of the Nenju's use this cheap stretchy cord that alwase ends up stretching out, deforming or breaking eventually. i get that all things are impermanent, but it gets tiring having to repair or replace worn out cord and they never hold the knots well. you can import quality ones made in japan but they cost serious money. cheaper and funner to make a quality one myself.

Nice shiny beads.
Can't say I'm into arts and craft. I was into assembling and painting model cars and airplanes as a youngster, but after elementary school, lost all interest.

I really like your mini-mala. Very nice.
Mine has the traditional 108.
I also like the material you made it out of and the fact you used a loop knot. Very nice.
