Self/family defense is the only GC you need in Sac County. The security guard stuff is contraindicated.

I have no idea what that word means but I will take it as do not bring up the security guard stuff and just put down self/family protection.

Yep. Good cause is self defense/family protection. That's all you need.

Don't hide the fact that you are a security officer. When they ask you about training/experience etc, that is when you bring it up. Not in the good cause statement. Do not say you want a CCW to pad your resume. You may do so once you have the CCW, (I did) but it is not a reason to get one.

I got my ccw on mc guinness term with a good cause about my job as a armed security (i'm not gonna tell the whole detail). When detective Wright found out about my job, He just ask about my experience with firearms and how often i go to the range. I wish i can change my good cause to self defense and defense of my family.

Had my issuance meeting today. All they need to do is cash my check and mail it out.

My livescan cleared in 4 hours, didn't receive the letter for 2.5 weeks or so. You got the letter in 24 hours?

I have had mine since the beginning of July and the detective actually suggested my good cause. When I sat down he said you are asking for CCW for self protection and protection of your family right? I said yes and he wrote it down and that ended that part of the discussion. I was pleased and amazed. Considering how this CCW issue has mushroomed in Sacramento County I would urge people to exercise some patience with an overworked staff. They are working as hard as they can and if you think you fell through a crack so to speak give them a call and I am sure they will be able to help you if you are friendly and polite to them. It was nice to feel that they were actually trying to help me get my permit instead of running into the horror stories I have been hearing in other counties. Good luck everyone.

Ummm....they said up two weeks. I got a notice stating that I missed a certified mail delivery.

DOH....I mean I'm not complaining. The sheriff's office rocks.

I guess I'll be picking something up early in the morning.

Call Amber and she can check for you. She told me it can take 30 - 90 days for the paper copy of your results to come in. However, sometimes things get lost in the mail. I never got my letter so she told me to just make the final appointment.

No need to send in the second livescan copy. I brought mine in to the final interview and they didn't need/take it.

I just got back from the Free State of Montana tonight and found my "gift" from Scott Jones in the stack of mail. Time to take my training and make that second appointment!

Cool

First appt. in a couple of days. 8/17. I'm looking forward to the process. Hoping to get in a class with Wes., if he becomes available. Not sure what to do, to speed up the process, other than getting an LTC class scheduled asap?

I'm scheduled with Wes, after talking to him over the phone for the end of this month. I'll turn in my application Wed. morning and pay my fee to the Sac SO. Anyone remember if the $20.00 check is made out to Sacramento Sheriffs Dept. or what do they want it made out to? Edit: nevermind I found it: "$20 made payable to "County of Sacramento". Should I wait to get my approval letter before I livescan, or just do it shortly after the appointment?

You need the letter for the livescan.

I have to say I'm really impressed with the speed Sac county is moving everything through!

7/21/11 First interview
7/30/11 Received approval letter
8/1/11 Did Livescan
8/15/11 Received Livescan clearance letter

Have my classes set-up for This Thursday and Friday and my final appointment 8/23/11. Hard to believe that everything from first interview to final can be done in about a month!
