Default Shipping to out of state Gunsmith question

I want to ship a recently purchased (new) Glock to a gunsmith out of state for some trigger work.

The gunsmith (FFL) tells me that I can ship to him directly and he can ship directly back to me-I'm sure this is correct per Feds. However can anyone tell me if there is any problem doing this per CA DOJ or am I required to ship and receive via local FFL?

Not an issue. You will have to ship Fedex/UPS overnight, which is expensive, so you might check what it would cost for a FFL to ship since then USPS can be used.
