Default Mossberg 590A1

So I've had my 590A1 for a couple months now and love it to death, 18.5 heavy barrel, ghost rings, and speed feed stock. But I missed the wood look, so I picked up an old 500 stock set and refinished it with a friend, Red dye followed by light oak, and finished with kona. How you all like it?

I think its crappy, just like that 28 gauge franchi. Who buys that gauge gun?! You should picked up a rossi circuit judge in .410 instead. LOP is too short too.

I read "wood stock" and "Mossberg 590a1" and thought "Gross".

But it looks really good. Like a shotgun AK47.

Black plastic is over. Nicely stained wood is the new tactical.

A heatshield is in the works! Just been tight on funds lately, guess its time to bite the bullet and get the heatshield. Any suggestions for heatshields? the heavy barrel narrows my options significantly.

I don't remember exactly, my buddy works at a cabinet shot and hooks me up with the stains. I'll have to ask him what dye it is. It's actually a red dye, with a couple coats of Kona over it. Super happy with how it came out.

I called them but they were pretty backed up at the time. Plus their online site wasn't working. I'll have to try again since its been a few months.

Just picked up a crate of 00BK and a fair share of magnum and trap loads. I let my lady friend put about 200 trap loads through it, plus a 100+ mix of buckshot/slugs from me. Shoots great and I love the ghost rings. We'll be going on a shooting trip soon, gonna throw a couple hundred rounds through it and see how it does. I'll have to make a range report for y'all!

Nope. Just went to Numrich and chose the appropriate sized forend for my 590. I actually got a used buttstock since it was cheap and wood is re-workable. Just popped the new one on. Takes about 5 minutes to switch the furniture, since when I go out in the boonies for a couple days I switch to the synthetic for its durability.

This is what she looked like before the wood. Not bad but I prefer the wood. Also shortened the LOP on the wood and it swings much better, lost a lot of weight and it sure kicks a lot harder too. On the right is a mid 70s 1894 I refinished.

Ordered a heatshield from AIMPRO a few days ago in flat black. I know a lot of people think they're useless and "tacticool" but I figure it'll give it an old school trench gun look. Although this shotgun isn't a safe queen, she gets worked hard! I'll take pictures once it comes in!

I think its a bit of both! All I know is that AIMPRO makes good products, even if their customer support is a bit slow. Hopefully it'll be here by tomorrow or Monday. Can't wait My modern trench gun will be complete!

I like it a lot. Have the 590 also but never liked the black synthetic stock. Looks like a good/quick next project.

That's what got me to do this. The wood cost me about 40 bucks and I got the buttstock used since I was going to refinish it. Refinished it and it made it an entirely different shotgun.

Shopping for the furniture online now. My 590 is not the A1. Came with the heat shield and I added ghost ring sights.

Just about any 500 furniture will fit. Just make sure you have a really long screwdriver to get the buttstock screw out. It can be kind of a pain. This is where I ordered my wood. Mossberg 500 Stocks Not all of the stocks have pictures so I called to know what I was getting myself into. Other than that. Great service and the descriptions were very accurate.

Well the heatshield showed up, so I slapped it on and brought out its safe buddy as well. AR is a 20 inch Bushmaster National Match A2 riding on a Stag Lower with Stag LPK.
