There has been talk about this basically since the Shield came out and everyone loved the new trigger.

S&W never announced it .. they didn't want people to stop buying current stock, deciding to wait for the new production.

I've been waiting to hear that people are finally purchasing some with the new trigger. Time to go shopping

I'm taking my new baby out to the range after I pick up on the 17th. I don't have a ton of experience (never fired an unmodified M&P9), but I've never been too picky about triggers in general as I pretty much only shoot for recreation. I'll definitely report back if I notice anything at that time.

Congrats on the M&P9. I hope to run another 100 rounds through mine - only because if I try 200, my hands will probably cramp from loading those magazines!!!

So, if I buy one now and it's manufactured after September, I should get a good trigger? I wanna buy this M&P40. Unfortunately it has mag safety but should be easier to find. Has anyone seen these in the south/east Bay?

BTW, is it possible to remove mag safety?

As far as CALIF. compliant M&P 9mm, how many models are there? Is it:

-- Shield w/3.1" barrel
-- Compact w/3.5" barrel
-- Full size w/3.5" (or 4.25" ?) barrel

Kinda confusing with all the models....

Update on my M&P9. Went to the range today and fired 130 rounds.
-Trigger is much smoother, grittiness on uptake is almost gone.
-I could insert a full mag with the slide closed and does not take a lot of effort
-Inserting the 10th round in the mag is still a little hard but can be done.
-Brass close to the face is gone. With a firm grip, brass ejects at 3/4 o'clock
-Trigger reset still have a good tactile feel. Not as prominent as the Glock's but so much better than the range rentals where you are kept guessing.

Overall, an excellent handgun and I am glad this was my first purchase. Grabbed 2 extra mags totaling 4, lucky Reed's had 2.

Balmo, how often do you go to the range? Reed's is my local range also and I'm curious to see how your trigger feels. I just picked up my M&P9 Talo in December but it has a build date from 2010 according to the test fire. I went to the range on Wednesday and was thinking about this thread. Being a new shooter I usually don't pay attention to the reset but when I did I could feel it easy enough.

congrats. seems some of you guys are able to find the M&P9.
My friend and I am considering of getting a M&P9 as our first handguns. We went to Jackson Arms in South SF, but they didn't bother to place an order for us since they don't know when it will be fulfilled.
it would be awesome if you guys can tell me where I can find 1. I don't mind getting the 1 without mag safety, but how is SSE done? which dealer is willing to do it? and how much extra does it cost?
Thanks!

Balmo,

i recently called reed's (yesterday) and asked if they had any m&p's left in full size. They said they only had compacts. I hope you are right thought because I was looking to purchase one also (in 9 or 40).

Picked mine up Saturday AM. Shot it in the afternoon. Love it but definitely need a speed loader. Very stiff mag springs.

I've put about 600 rounds through mine (over 2 mags) and left both mags loaded when not in use...still can't get more than 9 rounds in . The Uplula is amazing for loading the mags though.

After putting a few hundred rounds through mine, I am beginning to notice that the mags are becoming easier to load.

I would wait to do any kind of mag modification. Just remember, the majority of all reloads are going to happen slide open.
I am having this issue as well. I just picked mine up about a month ago but due to the 9mm shortage I've only put about 250 rounds through it so far. So far I love this gun.

I bought a M&P 40 last month. Very little grittiness in the trigger even at first. Reset is a little subtle, took a while to get used to. Love the way it feels in the hand with the medium backstrap.

The mags are easy to load compared to my Glock 21.

I was thinking of getting a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel. Anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks Balmo, I contacted Tracy R&P, but they are also out of the M&P9. If you could tell me a bit more about how they had the gun SSE'd, that'd be greatly helpful. I am fairly new to this. I wonder if the M&P9 + Range Kit ( but 17+1 round) can be SSE'd. Thanks!

Nice looking pistol. I considered an M&Pc for a while, but I didn't like the trigger. As long as it works for you, that is all that matters. Nice pictures btw. Is that a DSLR camera?

Well, I went to Tracy Rifle already set on getting the M&P9. Unfortunately, they were out of stock so they had to order from S&W. They then asked me if I wanted a mag safety model or not. I told them, yes! No mag safety please. That model is not on the roster and had to be SSE'd.

Just email them to see if they can order the range kit.

@smk, yep that was a dslr camera.

interesting read all. Great info - great pixs. Love the Bi-tone.

I just bought a .40 M&P - with 9 days left in jail. As soon as I pick it up I would like to take it straight to an armorer for trigger work. I intend to use this gun as my primary during tactical weapons courses (TFTT) so I want make sure my trigger is crisp and clean with a distinct reset.

With little to choose from these days, my M&P unfortunately has a thumb safety and magazine safety feature. I see a lot here and elsewhere about APEX triggers - but they seem to differ with these two safety features in mind. Any thoughts?

p.s. My former primary (now for HD) is a P229 DA/SA with a modified trigger enhanced by Sig Sauer via USPS with a two week turn around...thanks in advance

Just FYI...I had corresponded with S&W via emails about some information on 9mm models. On the last email, I asked if the M&P9 now came with the Shield trigger...and if they did, could I tell on the SKU/box coding?...and the reply was "NO, at this time there are no plans to put the Shield trigger on other models."

I just got my new springs from S&W for my mags, gonna try them out to see if I can get the 10th round in. I had thought that they were going to send me "new" old-style followers as well, but I guess I was mistaken...I'll be putting another call in to them if the springs don't do the trick.

Yea the mags are really stiff. Do yourself a favor an get a UpLula auto loader. Best $$ you will spend if you have a single stack mag pistol.

Success! The new springs did the trick, still have to use the Uplula speed loader, but I'm able to get the 10th round in now!

The 40c I put in jail yesterday had a very smooth trigger and noticeable reset. No grittiness to it at all. Its born on date is 12/6/12. I tested out a couple of others that were a little older and I could definately tell the difference. The triggers were not great and very gritty.

Okay after breaking 1000 rounds, this is probably my last update on my m&p
-after 1125 rounds, i have zero failures ~ awesome! and i have only cleaned my gun about 4 times.
-grittiness on uptake is almost gone, tactile and audible reset is still there.
-gun is more accurate than me.
-still have to jam a full mag home, especially if finishing off a barney loading

I just finished an action pistol class and the gun worked great! i am soooo happy i got the sse'd, no mag safety m&p. others who also had m&p pistols have to put an empty mag to "hammer down". The RO was surprised when I was able to hammer down without a mag. He ask me if I did any mods on the mag safety. I told him mine is not a CA version so I don't have a mag safety.

Now getting addicted to action pistol is another thing...

1125 is nothing. I put 4-5k through my assortment of M&Ps with just occasional lubrication. I don't think I ever cleaned them once.

Get all the Apex parts you can afford. Sure the stock triggers may getting better but it's not economical for S&W to put the same quality of trigger in the gun as an apex trigger.

Why have a different platform between your training and HD guns?
