Remington 700 Scope Mount Bases
So, the 700 HB 223 I bought from PSA came with the wrong scope mounting bases according to the Remington Factory Gunsmith I spoke to. He was nice enough to offer to send out a two piece set of Leupold mounts of the type in the link below.
Anyone have experience using this type of mount where the rear mount can adjust the scope for windage? Is there another design of two piece mount that would be better to use? https://www.leupold.com/scope-mounts...ngton-700-2-pc

Leupold is high quality with nice finish and features.
They have been copied by many others, which says a lot. There may be others that are better for specific uses, but this is a very good product. I would give them a try.

Thanks - they are sending them to me for free and I was letting that old saying "nothing good is free" wrongly nag at me. I'll give them a try when they get here.

They are excellent. I have the one piece mount on a Rem pump 30-06 and the Leupold scope since 1970. It has been thru hell and a handbasket over the years with dents in the scope. Still shoots to the same spot and have never had to adjust the scope. They are tuff rings/bases.

I don’t want to insult your intelligence but are you aware that only Leupold STD rings will work with the bases being sent to you? Weaver Style rings will not work.
I constantly read people bad mouthing the Leupold STD system on the Internet, specifically that they fail or slip due to heavy recoil or just won’t hold zero. I don’t know how many scopes I’ve mounted but it’s got to be over a thousand. A fair amount of them were mounted with Leupold STD’s. I’ve never had a customer bring a rifle back due to issues with Leupold STD’s. I bought my first rifle, a 700 ADL in 1972. The scope was mounted using Weaver hardware. I bought a new scope for the rifle in the early 80’s and I don’t remember why I went to Leupold hardware but it is still on the rifle though the scope has been upgraded several times. Though it’s not needed often they have one invaluable feature, the windage adjustment. I have a Marlin 336 that was drilled and tapped off center. I normally use Warne but they wouldn’t work because the scope didn’t have enough windage adjustment. I used Leupold STD and was able to sight the rifle in with no fuss or muss. So even though I normally don’t use them I would and do with confidence. I’ve read comments by a number of African PH’s that they use the system.

Wonderful - so the Burris Signature Zee rings I bought will not work with the Leupold bases that just came today?

The Zee rings won’t work. To use them you’ll need weaver style bases. This is what I’d get to use with the Zee rings but there are a number of good alternatives.

Wouldn't a 1-piece base imped the loading of my rifle in its current ADL stock configuration? I think I'm going to change out the stock and bottom metal to accommodate detachable mags but that's probably not going to happen for a few months. I can get a set of the Leupold Std Rings easy enough but I think I'd like to stay with the Burris rings.

There are many many Model 700 rifles with one piece picatinny bases on them, including EGW. So unless the ejector is out of whack it will work fine. Anytime I buy new bases now I get a one piece picatinny. With two piece bases there are a small number of scopes that can’t be mounted period and quite a few that can be mounted but can’t be adjusted to the shooters desired eye relief.

Here is a pic of the Weaver L46 base that was shipped in error mounted on my rifle. It overhangs the loading port area by less than 1/8 of an inch. I just checked with a dummy round if the slight overhang interferes with ejection and it doesn't. These Weaver bases both fit my receiver except for the slight overhang of the front base. I guess it's ok to use them after-all?
The slot location on the bases is different than the bases shown in the last image taken from the Midway website. The extra slot on the front base doesn't matter, right? These are the Weaver bases that fit my 700 according to MidwayUSA

Well, I went ahead and mounted the rings & scope. There's plenty of room to adjust the scope for eye relief so I'll leave it be and finish up tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for helping me out guys - especially Horrendo Revolver! Dwight is a cool hombre who is an expert on mounting optics properly being he used to do it as a full-time job. He was nice enough to volunteer his phone number to share his knowledge and answer any questions I had.

Not a problem. I just got a Weatherby Vanguard out of the safe and snapped this picture. In two piece bases the Vanguard uses the same ones as the Remington 700. As you can see in the picture the bases overhang also. I think you have Leupold Rifleman bases. Please call me if you can in the next hour before I go to bed. PM sent.
