Default Can I ship my handgun to myself out of/into state

I'm going to NV in a few months, I would like to bring my Hangun but not sure about flying with it. Can I ship it UPS to a UPS store for pickup, fly there and pick it up? Can I then ship it to my house when I leave? Am I required to ship it to a gun store or is this ok because I'm the registered owner?

I had similar issue and I remember (based on my limited research) that the answer was "no" for shipping to yourself, unfortunately. You can ship it to a receiving FFL dealer.

In your case, it is pretty painless to transport. You just need to pack the gun into its own locked case, then you can put that case into your normal checked bag. You need to declare (and show) during check in. Each airline has own rules on top of TSA that usually amounts to limited the number of guns you can pack into a bag.

Yes you can ship it to your self. From the ATF site
"Q: May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?

Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm."

HERE is the link to it.

If you ship it to a dealer in another state, said dealer will have to do a 4473 and since you are shipping a handgun, you could not get it from said dealer in another state.

For UPS, you must ship it Next Day Air from one of their hubs, not a UPS Store.

Do not ship it to an FFL unless you want to go through all the paperwork again.

as mentioned, check with the shipper, either UPS or Fedex. You cannot send it through USPS IIRC. It must go air - can't go ground IIRC. Shippers usually want you to declare it but I personally avoid doing so, they don't need to know what is in the box.

Just fly with it, check the airline's regulations regarding flying with firearms.

I fly to NV constantly with a firearm, just pack it unloaded in a hard case declare at check-in to be checked and tagged by TSA and you'll be on your way. Same process coming back. From NV the ticket agent will probably look at it to make sure it's unloaded and tag it on the spot.

Important thing is to pack unloaded in a hard case and declare at check-in.

But to answer your original question:
Yes, you can ship it to yourself in another state. As long as the city you're staying in does not prohibit handgun ownership.

Super easy, especially with Southwest airlines! I will be flying with my HK into Spokane, Washington end of October and it is really the easiest of affairs.

in this case, since it would be shipped to a non-licensee (himself), yes, federal law requires that the shipper be notifed that the packagae contains a firearm. But if it was shipped to an FFL, no notification is required.
