Just moved here from IE. I applied years ago with RPD, they said I was well qualified, but didn't meet the dept requirements.

I have all my info ready to go for an application out here. Any help with GCS would be nice. I have friends who got their permits for being avid shooters, I don't think that is allowed anymore.

Avid shooters were some of the people Sheriff Hutchens revoked or expired early.

Oral arguments in this case were on October 7. Does anybody have an update on how they went, or when we can expect a ruling?

I moved to OC a few years ago from the Midwest and would like to apply for a ccw. Do I have any chance of actually getting one if I do apply?

The OCSD page looks a lot different than it has in the past. (http://ocsd.org/about/info/services/ccw)

I have filled out the form and printed it.
Looks like it's time to try.

So they'll accept applications that state self defense... But will they issue a CCW?

Very true.

As another poster related his experience from a few days ago. He went to apply a day or two after the decision. He was told nothing had changed.

I called last Friday and was told nothing had changed and it was under review.
But I should watch their website for any changes.

Well there are changes now.
I'm going to apply.

Just go here:

http://ocsd.org/about/info/services/ccw

They have a checklist. Although, the list is pretty big.

That is exactly what I went thru, I submitted my app last Thurs, coincidentally the same day as the Peruta vs. San Diego decision. My appt was at 11:30am. I submitted it, came back to the office, and saw the decision after.

Looks like they updated their website to reflect the Peruta decision.

I thought it was almost impossible for regular civilians to get ccw in orange county.

I had my CCW submission appt last Thurs 2/13 @ 11:30am, came back from that appointment & saw the Peruta decision all over the news. I'm hoping that my app will get approved easier due to this, even though I did have a good cause statement that wasn't "self defense"

Didn't OCSD used to require letters if reference? I didn't see that listed on their page this time

Finally!

Anyone know of who is offering an OC Sheriff approved CCW training class this weekend?

This isn't a slam dunk. Things could change and you would be out of your money. Also, I'm not sure how recent they want the course. Appointments are already a few months out.

True, I guess the prudent thing is to wait for the preliminary approval of your permit before spending the money on the class.

You will not need to take the course for MONTHS after you file the paper work.

They will give you a list of approved courses when they are ready.

That will be at least several months.

I'm kind of curious : If you get the permit and then the court changes it's mind and the Sheriff revokes your permit will that revocation be a strike against you for a future application ?

Believe it or not, things are changing by the hour. As of today, OCSD is following SD and Sacto. Not saying they will approve before 3/6/14(due to 9CA final decision), but according to OCSD you DO NOT NEED GOOD CAUSE to be granted a CCW. Self/family defense is good enough! :-))
