Oh, that's good to hear I guess. I had asked for a update the other day and got the same, " You have been submitted for final approval"

Yup. I'd received that same response a few weeks ago. This time I queried my interviewing deputy asking if my wait-time for final was normal. He forwarded it on asking for a response.

I know, not the best protocol but he did offer to answer any questions. And, it did elicit a more detailed response.

Same here. Except mine said "Your file has been submitted for approval" I haven't received my conditional approval yet, but I'm doing the training anyway.

Interview was April 14, LiveScan was February 25.

I meant to mention this a while back. A friend of mine who was a captain with OCSD recently retired. I asked him who was going to take his place in his command and he said it would be the captain who is in charge of the Personnel Standards Division (PSD), which CCW's happen to fall under.

In a nutshell, the former CCW captain has transferred and there is a now a new captain in charge of CCW's. He may be slowing things down, have other priorities or he could be involving himself in the approval process. We know that the LT has been the one traditionally approving permits, but LT's report to captains and who know how the new captain wants to operate.

.

I have email saying Im approved, I submitted 3 mo early and my permit expires in less than 2 weeks. I emailed OCSD and just received same reply about administrative issues and I may go past my expiration date but will get appt.

If they are changing personnel will the new administration start denying people? I know Hutchens sets the policy ,but I wonder if she'll give free reign to whoever does the final approval.

Doesn't look like they'll start denying! 2 days after receiving the email on administration delays, I just received the here's your appointment next week to come pick your CCW email.

Looks like the we may be past the change in admin delay.

My live scan was submitted on Feb. 1st and OCSD received it last week. My paper work is in final approval status. Next I should receive an email to make an appointment for pick up. Hopefully it goes fast. <fingers crossed>

My time line is pretty much the same as yours except my interview was on 2/4 and I did my livescan the same day. I did my training on 3/20 too. They received my results on 5/2. Now I'm just waiting. I called on the 4th and they said it's waiting for final approval.

Interview is finally coming next week. I did my training and livescan early, Livescan on 5/27 and training on 5/28-29. I'm hoping it doesnt take longer than 6 months, otherwise I guess im paying for training again. lol.

Does anyone know if they always do the residency check next day? I'm trying to figure out if I should take the next day off of work to be there. Since I will be leaving town for the weekend.

I wouldn't necessarily count on next day. Not sure I'd bother taking the day off. They'll query the neighbors.

Default Renew CCW in Orange County

I will need to renew my CCW in Orange County soon. I 1st got it when personal defense was cause. I have heard the sheriff will still issue, but the reason needs to be a little more specific. I want to find if anyone knows any fairly general reasons the sheriff has been accepting.

Thanks

At the range this morning an I asked an acquaintance how his CCW application was going. I was surprised when he showed me his CCW denial letter. It said he didn't meet the good moral character requirement. He is somewhere around my age I think (65) and says his only problem was when he was 18 and had discussed it during the interview. It did not seem to me that would be a disqualifier. It was basically a traffic ticket. I recommended getting a live scan for himself so he can see what they are seeing. There could be an error involved perhaps. Is there any way to get a copy of the livescan he already payed for that went to OCSD? The letter said there was no appeal process, I read it myself.

Plenty of people here have admitted to their youthful indescretions and yet received LTC's.

I suspect that there may be more to the story.

Also some people inadvertently make disqualifying admissions during their interviews as well.

A copy of his livescan may give insight into the real story.

Although in the absence of an appeals process, the point is largely mute...

Bigbob,

Could be something said. I did have a curve ball question thrown at me that I really had to pause for a considerate answer.

Additionally, your acquaintance may not have provided a 100% truthful response to one or more questions on the application. That'd hurt the morale character aspect.

Yes, my life was a train wreck up until 19 years ago. I told the truth and didn't make any excuses for what I had done in the past. Fortunately I was able to document the positive things I have done in the last 19 years and the investigator was open minded enough to look at this. It took almost a year but I got my CCW.

Hopefully this guy will get a look at his livescan and see what there is that didn't match up with what he told them in the interview. He seems like a straight arrow. I guess it could even be possible that there is an error of some type. If I was in his shoes I would definitely want to see the livescan.

Well it's been a month now since my application was submitted for final approval and it's still sitting there waiting. I emailed them today and got a short "still waiting" answer.

Default Conditional approval vs Final approval?

I see a lot of people saying they were being submitted for final approval. I have only heard that I have been conditionally approved and was told to take my firearms training.

Is that what most are implying? I was told via email last week after I submitted my training certificates that they will notify me with my "pick up date".

It's been 14 weeks since my initial interview.

Thanks!

Sireson,

In my case, my training and LiveScan were completed before the interview date, so the complete package was submitted for approval - not being conditional on completing training or results of LiveScan.

Applied online for new CCW appointment on Thursday 6/2/2016
Currently Thursday 6/9/2016 (now Post-Peruta decision) and still waiting patiently for a response.

I'll be checking in with updates as a data point to see what effect the decision has on the OC process.

I had my interview yesterday, 6/8/16. Went well, Investigator definitely asked some questions that I think were meant to throw me off (if I was lying) but I was truthful and honest about everything on the app so I don't think that was negative. He did ask for photo evidence of my good cause though. I used off-roading in rural areas and recreational shooting on BLM land. So he wants me to email him pictures of me doing those activities. So he said once I send him that, they will just be waiting for the livescan, I submitted and completed the training about a week and a half ago. He estimated 2 1/2 months for final approval for me.

Of course, my interview was the day before the Peruta decision and I have a close friend that interviewed today Post Peruta. So I think it'll be interesting what changes happen between his process and mine. If any.

I KNEW I should have done this before the decision came down. I'm due to renew this month and I should have gone with my gut and renewed last month.

My understanding is that the ruling deals with good cause. OCSD already requires that so nothing should change.

MrRetep, if you don't mind sharing, what questions were asked that were meant to see if you were lying?
