Default Another Mosin Nagant Project (Pictures Added)

So I picked up another Mosin, took it all apart and started to finish the sanding that the person I bought it from started. I will post all pictures when its done. My question is how can I remove the eyelets for the sling and the metal springs that hold the front top wood piece and put them back? I would like to reblue them.

There are lots of YouTubes on how to take apart and restore your Mosin.

If your sling slot escutcheons are the pressed-in type, they're held in with small claws that grab the wood so you can just pry them out without damaging them.

The barrel band springs can be gently tapped out from the right side using a nail that has had its point filed flat.

ok so when I take the eyelet out (pressed in type) I can rebend the little claws and just press them back in and they will stay tight?

The sling slot escutcheons are held in with a L shaped tab pressed into the wood. They have to be pried (dug) out from the opposite side. I would , however, not recommend doing so. They are made of a sort of pot metal that can be weakened and may break off when you work them out or back in. In addition, after sanding and refinish, the recess will not be as crisp and they probably wont replace as nicely. Not worth the damage risk IMO

I deal with a stubborn band spring by holding in the retaining spring down with a pony clamp (protect the wood with a couple shims sandwiched in there) and gently tap the spring towards the muzzle with a small wood dowel.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping for something a bit more specific, what inspired it, maybe the Pantone number?

Inspiration was a piece of furniture my friend built and I loved the color of it, second thing was that I bought this mosin already stripped/sanded so I figured it was a perfect rifle to do this to. Glad you guys like it. It is green with blue tint.

That wood looks pretty good, I bet it would have looked great with an oil finish.

That's umm....well..............hmmm.

Fugg me, I kind of like it. I think it's the chrome accents that make the whole thing work together. You went out on a limb there, but I'm tempted to say that you actually kind of pulled it off.

Thank you sir. it is actually just polish I did not chrome it. The funny thing is I had almost everything put together except the butt plate which at this point I had to go #2 and while I was busy doing my thing my friend took the plate to the polish wheel When I came out and realized what he did I started to yell at him cause I wanted to keep it original but had no choice but to take off all the metal and finish what he started needles to say I am very happy he started what I did not want to. I polished the bolt handle, the two metal pieces on the front top wood, the butt plate, the edges of the bayonet and the sling eyelets.
