Any good storm stories?
Has anyone had to deploy any of their preparations in response to the recent winds and rain that began hitting California Friday, March 4th?
My area has been relatively quiet but I have the chainsaw sharp and ready to go. Extra fuel for the generator has been purchased and I've always maintained a bulk supply of heavy plastic sheeting, nails screws and lumber to cope with any unexpected storm issue around the property. So far, so good. How about you or your area? |

I had to bust out the SHTF TEOTWAWKI tactical broom to sweep the nuggets that floated out of the planters around the patio.
That's it.

That's brutal man. Next time you'll have to do a tactical poop check before the rain begins to fall.

OMG! I've been picking up fruit all day! It just keeps falling onto the ground as if something more than gravity is compelling my fruit to fall!???
Not sure what to do. Been hoarding plastic bags. Maybe I can concoct a plan...... |

Almost 8 inches of rain at the ranch this weekend. Snowing hard right now. No grid power since Sat morning and the solar has been about 30% maybe.
Ran the generator about 4 hours a day to charge up the batteries. The roads are a mess in the burn area due to the creeks jumping their banks or plugging the culverts. A weekend playing with the grand kids and watch it rain, Life is good. |

Light rain Sunday morning, the afternoon it was all blown out and a beautiful day at the beach.
This morning - lightning, thunder and hail, rare to see down IB way. I love serious weather.

WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up". |

Rain almost filled the pool to overflowing and as it was water came up to within a foot of our rear door but the patio drains held out. Wife still asked me to obtain a few sandbags as it really freaked her out.

Could have been aTEOTWAWKI if I hadn't prepped. 1st got the tactical pooper scooper and gortex camo and filled up a pail before it turned to poop pudding. Next made a run to stock up on olives & vodka. Got in a scuffle with a 70 year old lady who tried to steal the last bottle of garlic stuffed olives. Almost had to draw my ccw (concealed carry whistle) to alert store security. Made it home just as the torrential down power started. Had to turn wipers to high and engage rear wiper also. Spent the evening on high alert (martini induced high) bing watching House of Cards. I don't want to go through that ordeal again.

We lost power about 0130 on Monday. My wife woke up because her CPAP machine quit. I got up about 0200 and started some coffee in the percolator.
I realized I had taken out the battery that backs up the pellet stove last week to help start the old truck and forgot to bring it back in. I was having some coffee and my wife went back to bed. She started to snore without the CPAP and I didn't feel like messing with the generator. I was about to go out in the downpour and run a cord in from the inverter in the shed for the CPAP and grab the stove battery so I could relight it when the power came back on around 0330. Disaster averted.

Was out at a milsim west event last weekend, the PB was on an exposed hilltop and people had basically what was on the rucks on their back. After 3" they had an 85% dropout rate by Sunday morning. It wasn't that bad just people were woefully unprepared. Plus being cold is hard apparently.

Two things I wasn't prepared for:
1) Rain came thru my garage door windows like a light waterfall 2) Neighbor's tree branches feel into my backyard over the weekend Attachment 488144

Not around me. They have had some flooding problems on some of the roads north of here. There is a lot of green grass that is helping with holding the water and not flash flooding. We has grass a foot tall on the new property that burned to the dirt.
More rain and wind on the way. We are told more rain out of this storm than the last. |
