I'm definitely part of that trend. Besides myself, 5 of my close friends also purchased their 2nd and third firearms in the past 2 weeks.

Anyone read the comments? I usually don't, but this one caught my eye...

Quote:
"Charlie Blek, president of the Orange County chapter of advocacy group the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said the recent shift of convicted felons from state prison to local jails under realignment might have impacted gun sales.".........
I'm really at a loss for words at how to respond to that. No idea where the direct quote is actually coming from, but it sounds like a steaming pile of s%%t and another example of how the Bradybunch is out of touch with reality.

I usually buy on 3 paycheck months... soon.

Oh, wait, I am refinancing soon. Oh and I can sell some vacation back...

This next year is going to be a good one, providing that Google does not become self-aware 12-21-2012!

I find it kind of funny that, on the one hand we're having record gun sales, while on the other hand there are people feeling all oppressed.

Can't really have it both ways. <-- Opinion worth what you paid for it.

My long response got eaten by the computer. But of course you can have it both ways.

People buy guns in record numnbers in spite of our gun laws.

Someone like you that has been buying guns here for so long, if I recall correctly, should know that better than anybody.

I wasnt remotly intersted in politics until I moved back to LA and tried to buy a rifle. That was all it took.

Its all relative. Compare CA to AZ. A distance of hundred or two miles and its night and day. The fact that Californians buy so many guns anyway shows that the spirit of innovation is not dead here afterall and even a metric ton of bull**** gun laws cant stop it.

The problem is doing one thing like buying a gun doesnt equal voting for someone that is progun. Unfortunaltly, the GOP in California, and many other places, have made themselves unelectable. So while more gun purchases might equal more people at the range (and no where else because of May Issue) it wont equal more freedom.

That is the California paradox. Perhaps we will see a rise of blue dog democrats, but I doubt it. People here seem to be content to buy their guns then vote for someone that will take them away....

I have bought many guns in the past few months, so I definitely fall into the group. However, I am not collecting, I shoot what I buy regularly. I think initially I did buy my first guy out of fear of losing my rights. I didn't like guns. I also felt during these hard times that the crime rate in our town had gotten much higher. I also decided if I bought it, I was going to shoot it and then discovered I liked shooting, taking my gun apart and cleaning and learning about my guns. I bought the AR from my son, got a shotgun for trap shooting (which I love) got a shotgun for my husband so he would go with me sometimes a handgun because I liked it and a .22 for cheap plinking.

I don't know how many people out there are like me, but I would assume a few. Never owned a gun, to discovering they liked them.

I never voted for one person who would take my gun rights away. However, I lost didn't I?

How does buying guns = spirit of innovation?

Gun laws can stop it (buying/owning/using guns), that is why people are buying guns, innovation has nothing to do with it. I'm one of those, I used to have a weapon and got rid of it, but two recent burglaries near by and the fear of what Obama's red(commie) state will do, plus now that Californians have zero chance against the left progressive socialist in Sacramento, a governor who lets felons out of prison, and 65 previous felonies now considered misdemeanors to reduce the cost of housing them, I had to take steps.

My fear goes so far as to consider creative ways of staying off the books, because the situation in the not to distant future can go the way of UK and Aussie land. However I have to stay legit to have a chance at getting a concealed carry permit.

Honestly very little stands between your guns and the government who claims that in the name of the people to protect them they need to confiscate all weapons. California progressive politicians take pride in leading the nation into socialism bliss, and the pretender in the white house wants to do exactly the same. In Ca with the Dems control over both the assembly & senate + a radical for governor, things will only get worse for gun owners.

The one possible saving scenario will be cuts in Police and the resulting increase in daily crime, (Oakland cuts now have 60+ burglaries or breakins a night, think Detroit). To keep the public from feeling helpless they will allow them to keep and buy more guns.

Right, gun purchasers know the election results equal the handwriting on the wall. That voting for bigger government, more taxes (disguised as money for schools), and more liberal/leftist to run the government, means honest citizens will have to protect themselves and can not depend on the government when the SHTF.

Frankly I don't see how GOP candidates in California made themselves unelectable? You mean saying the government needs to tax less, reduce it's spending, make changes that really work, makes one unelectable? IMHO a liberal press almost uniformly endorsing the local democrats running for office, and an increasing voting age population that has been thoroughly indoctrinated by our public school system, liberal college, plus an radical progressive social media (including TV, & Movies), hell only crazies and old farts vote GOP. Joining the crazies wouldn't be fashionable or PC.

As far as innovation, I was refering to work arounds California gun owners, many of them right here, have come up to get the guns they want. Beyond that, I agree, going out and buying a gun after jumping through all the hoops, waiting, wasting time is not very innovative. Its a natural American (even in California) response to a political/economic reality.

In regards to the GOP being unelectable in California, everybody has their own thoughts on why that is. I am still a registered Republican, along with most of my family. The point is, we are well within the minority in this state.

The question is now what? We all have all these guns, now what? Will this flood of sales lead to a call for less gun control? No, it wont.

Why is that?

What bums me out about all this panic buying is that its driven prices sky high. Does anyone think that in the future there will be a glut of guns and prices will go down? I certainly hope!

All the paranoid, panicked buyers need to calm the hell down already. I can't buy a box of ammo without questioning if I should eat or put gas in my car.

All bubbles burst eventually. When folks realize the UN and Team Obama will not descend from black helicopters to snag everyone's guns, the market will become flooded with the guns everyone's buying dupes of. Bargains will be had.
