Just a reliability followup.
I've been using the Gen-1 spring/follower combination for almost a year. The two carry mags, one 7/8rd in the gun, and an 8/10rd in the pocket, have been loaded up 24/7 for almost a year. I normally cycle my carry rounds every couple of trips to the range and have had no problems, plus I've not had any issues with WWB 115fmj out of my spare 8/10rd mags, but other than cycling out the 18 rounds I normally carry I don't run a lot of ammo through the carry mags (after the initial 200+rd reliability test when I first got them). Today I ran another 100rds of 147gr HST through both mags and had no problems at all. All chambered and ejected fine. May have been twice the slide didn't lock back, but I tend to run my thumb high and won't swear that I didn't hold it down.

OK, I have the new followers in. I don't see any difference between the originals and these so who knows.
I'll be testing them tonight and will report back accordingly. Thanks |

1/19/17 Talong Grips Gen2 + Shield's New Big Brother
After installing the Talon Grips Gen2 rubber grips and test firing 200 rounds without issue, I've come to like them. They are secure and have restored my faith in Talon Grips.
As you recall from Post #93, the Gen1 grips started and ended at the backstrap. The repeated use of the gun caused the grips to fail. Other folks reported that the failure had also happened to them. The Gen2 style wraps around and the end tucks under the beginning of the grip tape to reduce peeling. Its current carry configuration: I liked them so much that I bought a set for my newly acquired M&P40 FS. I traded my M&P9c for it. I already have parts for the pistol to make it an all-around like my Sig Sauer P320. - OEM, new-style .357 Sig bbl and a Storm Lake 40-9mm conversion bbl are in my possession. Appropriate mags en route. - Updated sear housing with the PRO sear from a forum member and they're on their way. - "Hillary Hole" frame plug from Brownell's, updated "H" trigger assembly and slide stop are in my possession. - Safariland 7377 holster is on its way via 3point5/Experticity internal FFL industry vendor. Can't beat $15 ($25-ish after shipping, tax, and service fee) for a Safariland duty holster. All will be installed and tested as soon as I everything has arrived. It will be happy shooting indeed. 2/5/17 - MG Baseplate Broke!
Standard magazine change drill. Magazine hit the floor and innards popped out. The MG basplate had broken. I was able to find the follower, but floorplate was nowhere to be found.
I emailed MG to see if they would replace. I'm sure that they'll make it right, but the broken baseplate is a little unsettling. Disappointment aside, a few more vanity shots of the M&P full size. It's currently chambered in .357 Sig. |

Thanks for the update Anbu. Sorry about the incident with the baseplates, but hopefully MG will make good on it. Keep us posted!

Where this concerns me is this was a normal mag change/drop. If it broke with that amount of force, what would happen during a double feed where I'm stripping the mag out and chucking it on the floor before clearing and loading a fresh mag?
That thing would probably shatter preventing the mag from being used again after the other mags are empty. |

The Glock, 92FS, and other external extractors with a nub (painted or not) would not meet the current standard of "prominent" and would not be rosterable even if they had microstamping and a mag disconnect.

So after my last post I figured I would conduct my own somewhat scientific test (my older brother IS a rocket scientist so that's gotta account for something right?).
My wife's Shield has the Magguts baseplate, but the stock OEM spring and follower. I dropped a full mag from roughly 5 feet onto the tile inside the house to get it to hit the baseplate. No issues. Did that a few times then moved onto harder tile. Same thing. Went into the garage for a concrete test. All good. All together I dropped it maybe a dozen times. It hit different parts of the baseplate. Here's a picture of the horror inflicted on the baseplate. Banged the crap out of my HST's though... Hope they continue the hold up. One word of caution for anyone who wants to do this, use cheap ammo... Happy shooting and be safe!

I received an email from MG today. My case was the first example of this type of malfunction and they are assuming that it was a defective part.
Replacement locking plate and baseplate are en route as a warranty replacement. I'll report back accordingly. |

Glad they're taking care of you. Hopefully none of the other mags or the new one experiences the same problem.

I have not had that issue with Gen 1 or Gen 2. Check the spring orientation. If you still have the same issue, email MG. They'll take care of you. |

I will note that I have opted to use the kits on the extended mag and carry 10+1 with a spare 10. It's easy enough to conceal and feels like in between a compact/FS so I figured may as well carry that way and maximize round capacity.
I carry my compact pistols to begin with and conceal those easily. The Shield is just a bit more comfortable. |

Also, how are you liking the TLR6? Any issues? Do you use the laser on it too or just the light? Thanks again.

I don't have personal experience with the TLR-6. I have the Viridian RTL with ECR. I personally don't have a need for the laser so I don't see the need to switch to the TLR-6. It is bulkier than the Viridian, but will likely have better holster selection because of popularity of Streamlight. Viridian will also be limited if you want he ECR ability. |

Oh sorry about that. Yeah, personally not sure about the laser, but need to mount a light for HD duties(wife). Streamlight seems to be a popular choice.

Ok folks. I'm going to AIWB carry using the Zork Skinny Holster and since they do not support the Viridian at this time, I'm selling it off.
The RTL will come with original packaging, unused OWB holster that it came with (has ECR), extra Viridian batteries, and if you have an Alien Gear holster setup I can give you the shell for it too, but you'll have to source your own button magnet. I'm also considering selling of the 3 sets MG gen1 springs (SOLD). The gen2 setup is performed and I trust them to work so I no longer have a use for the gen1. You will get these for fair prices shipped if you're interested. I wanted to offer it up to you Shield folks first before putting it out on the main market. You've followed my progress and know what the deal is on these items already. Send me a PM. I'll probably give it until April before putting it up in the main forum. The Zorn Skinny Holster had what I was looking for and I was able to carry my Sig P320C and hide it no problem. After wearing it for almost 3 months now, I found that sitting was way more comfortable, drawing was faster along with drawing while seated, concealment while doing daily tasks was a big plus. The shield being thinner should make EDC considerably more comfortable and minimize the "man belly" appearance. I still carry my spare mag at the 9:00 position since I carry AIWB at the 12:00 position. The skinny's offset clip allows that position without adding the bulk. The wing is a necessary feature for AIWB for sure. The best part of this change was I get to say, "It's a gun" if someone ever asks, "Is that a gun in your pants or are you happy to see me?" So far, no one's asked me that yet. The one down-side is that it does make potty time a little more time consuming lol. Last edited by code_blue; 03-22-2017 at 11:39 AM.. |

Anyone with gen2 springs have this issue? Installed them yesterday, I followed the directions and made sure the spring went into the mag correctly. I'm able to tilt the follower...
I did a small test it at the range and it fed 50rds with no issues. Sent email with video to magguts so waiting for reply and I'm hoping this isn't normal. |

I've personally not experienced that issue. I've swapped my kits back and forth during testing and did not experience that. I have also not experienced that during loading, unloading, or shooting.
The only major issue I had was the reported baseplate crack, which MG replaced. Keep us posted. |
