In 1986, a few months after I STOPPED shooting, my best friend's father offered to sell me a gun he never allowed me to shoot. He bought it as an investment and never shot it himself. I had always wanted it, so I handed over the cash.
Walther PPK/S, box, book, test target, two magazines but no cleaning rod. It is marked "W. Germany" (meaning "Made in France by Manhurin" for those who know PPK/S history). It is marked "Interarms Alexandria Virginia" on the right side, along with the Ulm horn and "79" stamp. I have about 100 rounds through it, after letting it sit for 30 years! In addition to the Walther, the seller offered an S&W Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman .357 magnum with a 4" barrel. It belonged to a city cop who put Mershon grips on it, and took the grip to a grinder to make access for a speed loader. The walnut stocks are mint, and rest in the box with two speed loaders. I bought it because it was cheap, and I had shot it before and liked it. Below are the pretty side of the gun with the ugly side of the grip, then the ugly side of the gun with the pretty side of the grip. I guess storage wasn't the best, but it shoots great (what else would you expect?) Serial number puts it in the late 70's (I think 1977 if I recall correctly. Since both sat for thirty years without use until my interest was sparked again a couple months ago, I guess you can assume (correctly) that these are absolutely keepers! |

Mine was also Beretta, though it was a 92FS - bought when I was in college, right after I turned 21. Rather than go to a bar the first thing, I went to a gun store.
With as little as I shoot nowadays, the DA/SA trigger was too much to master and remain skilled. My wife and her friends really seem to like 9mm in the larger, recoil-absorbing size, so I've kept it all this time.

SIG P226 Navy. 10K + rounds later, I still love it.

My first was a AMT Automag II .22 mag. the year was 1986 and I was 16. The first time I saw it, it was in a Guns and Ammo mag. on the front cover (I still have the mag) and knew I had to have one. 6 months of raking pine needles and I had the 258.00 I needed. My mom took me in to the shop and did the paperwork. and I think it was 15 days later I had it in hand. and yes I still have it.

On my 21st birthday I went to Berry Creek guns in Oroville, as I had my heart set on a S&W 696, to which the owner talked me down to get the S&W 60 in 3" instead. It was a great gun, but I ended up selling it because i was as young and stupid - had I gone for the snub by 686 or 696 I would have probably kept it all these years later.

Ditto, maybe 2000 rounds, and ditto.
I won't likely sell it. Improved the grips with Sig Aluminums and it feels incredible in my hand.

When I started shopping for my first handgun I knew I wanted something like an M9 but in .45ACP.

Fnp 9mm, I still got it, it was about a year and half ago and I had just turned 21. You get a lot of gun for the money. I had decided on a hammer fired pistol and I was thinking of going with the sp2022 since that was the only one with in the budget but then I saw this gem for sale on here.

gen 3 glock 21 SF. I chose it over a "base model? ($900)" rock island 1911.Having only shot higher end, custom 1911s (wilson combat) up to that point i assumed i would be disappointed with the rock island model. I chose a Glock because the price was right and they have a reputation for running reliably which was important as its my HD gun. I have no regrets AND saved about $250...which promptly turned into ammo hahaha

My first Hand gun was a Colt Python 6" Blue, I bought it in 1984 at Turners for $525. I regret having to sell it when I got laid off and needed money. I kick myself in the *** every time I think about it, I loved that gun.

My first handgun purchase was a Charter Arms Pathfinder. I bought it at the Gun Gallery on El Cajon Blvd. in San Diego. I still have it and everything that came with it, including the receipt. A S&W Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece was another 60 bucks, but as it was, I had a hard time saving up the $170 for the Pathfinder.
Can't remember if there was a DROS or waiting period back then.

First handgun was a Glock 21 gen 4. Loved it. Ended up trading it for a G19 and some extras during my first attempt to consolidate to just 9mm. Weeks later a Les Baer forced me back into 45. Now I've learned my lesson and sold all my 45 stuff again and will just get a Les Baer in 9mm the next time around.
I love the 45. I fretted more over the 45 vs 9 question than I did about getting divorced lol. If Im ever a millionaire, of course Ill return to my original caliber. But being a brokeass single dad in college, I just can't justify the luxury of stockpiling excess calibers at this point in my life. Edit: and to answer OP's questions: I loved my Glock 21 and that was the beginning of my love affair with Glock. I still have numerous glocks and want many more. I regret trading my original G21 but ehh thats life. I love the G19 that I traded it for.

First gun was a Ruger MK II .22LR with 4.75 in barrel. Stupidly let it get away, and always regretted not keeping it. Luckily I was able to replace it with another one not too long ago. This one's a keeper!
