Default 30 day wait on handguns?

Do LEO's have to wait 30 days between new handgun purchases like civilians do?

Thank you armed24-7 for the quick response. Next question is, can retired LEOs buy off roster handguns in california and if so are they still eligible for the discount that some manufactures offer for LEO?

No on off roster.
Discounts depend on the individual manufactures/dealers. Some do and some don't.

No, they are exempt. A letter is not required.

Before I retired, I once bought 3 in one day, picked them up 10 days later. No letter is required. The letter is required to waive the 10 day wait.

Retired can NOT buy off roster guns or hicap magazines, and the 1 in 30 rule applies to to retired LEOs.
I can still buy at LE locations and receive most of the same discounts.

FALSE!

LEO are EXEMPT from the 30 day wait on handgun purchases. You need a letterhead to skip the 10 day wait.

When I first found this out... I was a very happy...but very broke man (my cards got some good use for a while untill I slowed down lol)

CA DOJ interprets full-time LE as no-30 day handgun wait, reserve is interpreted as part-time and must wait 30 per handgun purchase. This is all without department letters/backing.

Ive never seen a law but I asked a dealer what my limit on guns per month was. He laughed and said, "With that badge, my store inventory" I took that as I can buy as much as my wallet will let me.

LEO's do not have to follow the state law on one handgun a month, but not sure about LA city or other city ordinances which do the same.

That is strange, because a shop I tried to buy two guns at told me they cannot sell me the 2nd one without the letter head to avoid the 30 day wait. They knew I was a LEO because I had to supply them with my law enforcement ID to get the high cap mags. Perhaps that was just their store policy. I don't know

here is the law,

27535. (a) No person shall make an application to purchase more
than one handgun within any 30-day period.
(b) Subdivision (a) shall not apply to any of the following:

(5) Any person who is properly identified as a full-time paid
peace officer, as defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section
830) of Title 3 of Part 2, and who is authorized to, and does carry a
firearm during the course and scope of employment as a peace
officer.

it doesn't say that they have to have a letter.

Thanks for posting....I just got done reading it, actually. I should write the owner of that store a strongly worded letter :-P

Obviously its just another set of inane laws that are vague, misunderstood, and inconsistently applied depending on jurisdiction and gun dealer's competence or ignorance.

A retired LEO I know just bought a brand new off roster gun through a local dealer. He plainly identified himself as "retired."

They are exempt from 1 per 30 rule. I bought three new glocks in the same week before.
