Default Vortex SPARC recoil torture test begins...

Mounted on our .50 Beowulf w/ Butler Creek #4 caps:

It does absolute cowitness perfectly at this height with the annoying rail system that came with the gun. Someday, I'll change this out to a lighter forearm.

Big thanks to Scott at Liberty Optics for a great CalGunner price ($179 shipped) and super quick shipping!

The gun gets fired every weekend, so I'll let everyone know how the optic survives and if it holds zero.

Below was the prior configuration that was just too front heavy for most people! The Eotech is destined for an AR pistol build.

25 full power Beo rounds through this gun/optic combination today and no issues whatsoever. The optic held zero and didn't break. More tomorrow.....

The gun was used all day today. The optic is performing flawlessly. No complaints.

Bad news, this past weekend the dot began going off during fire. No amount of manipulation of the on/off button would reset the unit. We waited 5 minutes and it came back on spontaneously. All of the buttons are now malfunctioning as well with the dot just going on and off. Battery was replaced with no improvement.

Good news, I called Vortex and they are sending me an advance replacement unit, but they did want a credit card number to guarantee the return.

We'll see how the second one does.....

I've been considering one, but this review may have changed my mind, esp since my intended application would be in .308.
Thanks again, and please let us know how the new one holds up.

What's weird is I have the First Vortex and it's a 2 MOA! I loved it so much I told my friends to get it. Theirs came and was a 4 MOA! I don't get it did they stop making it in 2 MOA is the SPARC the one one that has 2 MOA now? Also on mine when you press on/off it will go green/red then off and I don't have to hold it for a while! Is that weird PM me if it is.

I recently bought the Vortex Strikefire Red/Green dot (2 months ago). Within one week of getting my Strikefire I was out in the deserts of the Antelope Valley, CA. firing my Ledesma Arms AR-15. This is when I noticed how dim my red & green dot appeared under clear sunny skies. This quickly became a big problem as I could not quickly acquire my target.

I contacted Vortex about my issue & one of there service reps named Kelli replied right away. Kelli did inform me that the dot does not look as bright because of the required lens which is needed to clearly see both the red & green dot.

Kelli did offer to ship me a new Strikefire (red dot only version) at no additional cost other than the cost of me shipping out my old unit. Kelli explained that the red dot only Strikefire uses the same lens & light source found in the SPARC unit which was much brighter than the red/green dot Strikefire. I quickly took Vortex up on there offer & overnighted my unit on Wednesday. I received my new Strikefire (Red Dot only) model the following Monday & let me tell you, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! I LOVE MY (RED DOT ONLY) VORTEX STRIKEFIRE!!! I have put about 1000 rounds total of 5.56 & 200 rounds of .223's on my AR 15 & my STRIKEFIRE has not had one problem.

I know this is not the SPARC unit but I had such a great experience with VORTEX that I felt I had to share it with you guys. If it counts, I first learned about Vortex because of there SPARC unit but once I got to see it up close (Turners) I realized the eyepiece was much smaller than what I was looking for.

I had the same problem with my strikefire and vortex was awesome. They replaced my red/green unit with a newer red only, brighter version and it has worked flawlessly without issues.

At about 200 rounds the optic started to move around on the base even though I used blue thread locker on all fasteners. I removed the optic from the gun and all fasteners were loose. I re-applied more blue thread locker and all appears well. No issues with the optic so far otherwise.

Yep that thread put me over the top on giving Vortex a shot...I figured if I didn't like it, id throw it on the 870. So far, i like it for what it is on the AR.

Malfunctions now beginning with the second optic after about 250 rounds of Beowulf. Dot will go off and no manipulation of the controls will bring it back on. After waiting about 10 minutes it comes back on spontaneously. Disappointing to say the least. I guess it's time to find some other solution for the Beowulf.

I would just drop the coin on an Aimpoint MPS3 it's designed for medium to heavy support weapons. Just curious though why did you ditch the Eotech was it all weight related I think a T1 would be plenty durable enough.

Hey thanks again for doing this...

Since the start of this thread i wound up picking up a red dot only strikefire. Im only using it for 556 so i figure i should be ok. When i got it i accidentally bought the one with the low mounts. A quick call to vortex and they said they would swap the mounts for me. +100 vor vortex customer service!

My first outing with it it shot loose but a lil blue loctite and ive been ok since.
Although I will admit the 600 rounds of 556 ive put threw it is a "sissy test" compared to the 50 cal beo rounds you were using.

I really wanted a sparc but it seems everyone agrees the strikefire is more robust.

thanks again!!!
