Sounds fun. What limitations on ammo?

During sight in, can you use the prone position?

Typical calibers used?

Sorry for newbie questions, I've never shot offhand at that distance before.

Hopefully I will be in the Bay Area for this. Would be nice to test out my AR.

Reading here: http://www.chabotgunclub.com/MetallicSilhouette.htm
I says:
Quote:
Some of the rules

Rifles can not weigh more than 10 Lbs 2 Oz.

Rifles must be chambered for 6mm or larger (.223 not acceptable).

Belted magnum calibers are not allowed.

No bullets that attract a magnet (steel clad, steel jacketed, steel core or armor piecing) or tracer rounds permitted

Shooting is done offhand standing without shooting coats, palmrests or slings.

Hearing protection and eye protection is required at all times while on the range.
Are these the rules for this event?
- Trying to see what rifle I could bring

Ok so am confused. OP stated "... All you AR guys come out and show us..." and now the posted rules show no .223 allowed.

So no AR's? Well AR-10's only?

Satobill, those are the posted rules on the web site but we allow 223 as long as you are not using SS109 steel penetrator or any steel core bullets.

Any lead core bullets are acceptable and of course reduced power loads are preferred, final determination is how the ammo reacts with the targets, if they start pocking the target we wont let you shoot it anymore and as always some of us have some ammo to lend you new guys.

You can sight in prone but its not really necessary, we have benches and bags or shoot off a bipod off the bench during sight in.

Wear warm clothes as it will probably be cold inside the shooting enclosure.

So come on out with your WWI/WWII, hunting, plinking or varmint/target rifle

Thanks for the clarification!
- Are all the targets at the same distance?
The chickens seem fairly small for offhand at 200y.

Those are Turkeys......are there turkeys in Sweden? They have nice Chicks....

And they're the toughest ones to hit.

40 shots Offhand at 200yds and 3-4moa targets is not easy.

We sure do, but I never shot one on purpose - steel or otherwise.

Are all the targets at the same distance? Yes 200 meters

The chickens seem fairly small for offhand at 200y. Yes (about a 8" hit are) they are, but when you hit one, your cohones will swell and you will start singing like a rooster.

Thanks, but that would be too easy as it probably would be perfect for silhouettes
- I will bring an AR - probably scoped. Need to see what ammo I have for them.

Got to get you off that glass habit...
Try to make it. It is a blast.

OR, try to make the Gonzales Christmas shoot the day before. Killer BBQ and full distance critters. You can even join the duel between myself and 6mmintl, varmint class (off the bench), and we all shoot the same gun. I'll spot you the Lake City Match ammo. If we have 3 shooters we will make a separate class. Winner keeps his gun.

OR you could shoot both days!

I'm definitely going tomorrow - with an AR15.
- Tried the irons today, but I couldn't see a 6" target at 100y - so scope it is

Will look into the Gonzales match after that. I have family visiting over Christmas so it could be good to have a reason to get out of the house

His Scandanavian bretheren would shake their heads, they like their iron sighted match rifles for sure.

I think the correct term is to get someone "off the bottle" - just taking away the glass won't help

I need to look through a good iron sight and see what they look like. Regular AR sights aren't as nice as HK-type sights.

Well....
The KTM 3 stroke is as far as I'll go for evolution.
Scopes are for bed-wetters.

A REAL KTM, that takes oil in the gas. Not one of those 4 stoke, scope-like poser bikes. You know I'm kidding, and can feel the love, right?

Not as white-knuckle fast as the old 1983 495, but MUCH more ride-able in the tight stuff.

Got sling??

It was excellent weather for a Six Day Trials/National Enduro.

Not so good for iron sights!

nimoZ kicked some butt and brought home some award points....again!

Yeah, that was easy - one little piglett, two... NO, it was very hard to stay on target while squeezing the trigger.

Since it was timed, I had assumed you could load a magazine with 5rnds and stay in position - Single feeding cost time and rebuilding the position too.

The more I learned, the worse I did - but next time I will do better. Thanks for all hints and pointers Ken, Frank and Chas!
- Now I have a goal - I want one of the clean-sweep pins

I need to practice more - much more
