Default Travel question

This IS more of a should I thread than anything else.
So I'm headed down to San Diego for 3 days of work, staying in a hotel and all that jazz, I know I'm legal to transport (unloaded in a locked case) and have in my hotel room as if it were my home.
I guess my question is should I bring it IN CASE I get time to hit a range or better off leaving it at home. Haven't been shooting in a long while and it would be fun to shoot outside of my club (oaktree).
I just don't want to keep my baby in my trunk for 3 days or have housecleaning report a weapon or even worse steal it.

What say you Calguns?
Ps I welcome flames. They char my burgers best.

Many of the "better" hotels and motels now have a combo safe in their rooms. Call where you may be staying and ask.

I'm never without a gun in my truck, or wherever I may be. You just never know when a shooting opportunity may present itself

I always take mine when I travel. Goes into my room in the evening and into my trunk when I leave in the morning, and into my IWB holster any other time. I have to leave it in the trunk during the day but it's a secure lot.

Tough call, because of the theft issue. I don't trust the hotel safes unless it is the one in the lobby controlled by the check in. In that case ok if it is in a non gun container, and receipted.

In general, If I have a pistol with me and have to leave it in a hotel room, I use a small lock-box and cable and try to find someplace out-of-sight to attach the rig to a heavy piece of furniture. (Under the bed is often a good option.) From a practical standpoint, however, you'll be fine if you put the gun in a locked box inside a locked suitcase. Here in the US, unless you are staying at a really scum-bag place, the staff won't even think of lifting your luggage and if you lock the bag they can't / won't look into it.

^^^ I do this as well.
Put a simple padlock on your suitcase and store it in a corner of the closet where the padlock is shielded from view. The maids never touch it or even think about it.
Obviously, do not leave any visible clues in the room that you are a gun enthusiast. Keep the porn in the Open and hide your 'Guns and Ammo' in the drawers.

I'm curious about the legality of unloading, locking it in a small pistol case, tossing the case in my backpack, locking the backpack, and just taking it with me.

No safe at home(yet - one gun >.>), dislike the idea of leaving it in the vehicle(truck's been broken into twice now - they popped the door locks, the glove box lock, jacked two backpacks among other stuff) if I have to head out, and I don't have a LTC(also, yet - in the works).

From my understanding, it would be smarter to have the gun case locked separately inside the backpack. Then it's indefinite that it's inaccessible.
But it's only one or the other I wouldn't do both if I need to get in the bag, just a locked gun case.

Noticed I mentioned locking both.

I have a number of non TSA compliant luggage locks. I love them. They make TSA nervous. Lol

i agree with ARMY, most places will have safes. Me personally I never keep my guns in a locked case when im traveling they just have to be in a trunk unloaded and when I get to my destination ill find a secure spot for it..
