.308 auto loader choices

Besides the M1A I already have is there anything else we can own in semi auto .308?

There are several AR type .308s available. AR10, SR25, DPMS, Fulton Armory, POF are some that come to mind.

I am not familiar with these, do you have to take them down to load them like some of the regular ARs I have seen?
Are those brands available here?

Yes, you can get them here. They'll require a bullet button or some other device to ensure the magazine is not detachable.

You can still remove the magazine to reload - that is not in violation of the law, since it requires a tool to do such. You could break it open if you wished, but it's not necessary.

CETME's and PTR-91's both have Raddlock bullet buttons available for them.

I like my M-1A, M-1A, M-1A and M-1A. I have four of them. No other 308 Semi auto's. Have some bolt guns though.

Looks to be 9.5 - 10lbs for the rifle. Scopes/bipods will add to that, of course.

Box stock Remington R-25 (same as DPMS lr-308, but off-list) weighs 8.75# without optics, that's a 20" medium contour barrel.

Could probubly shave another pound off it without too much work.

The next AR-308 will be closer to 12# for bench shooting, heavier barrel will be most of the pork.

My decked out .308 AR weighs about 12.something lbs with Leupy VX-II Tactical scope, empty mag, fluted 24"bbl, A4 receiver, bipod, foregrip(cuz Im so c00l), and PRS stock.

It isnt light but its great on the bench. Much better than those bastard M1As


I actually like my M1A. I have a "Loaded" one and it prints seemingly impossible groups with Aussie ball with iron sights. Thats one thing I love about my M1A, the sights. I can probably hit anything as far as I can see it as long as we are both stationary. I like my .308 AR more though, its just cooler.

Saiga 308 is the best "bang for the buck" for this class of rifles with a current street price of $500-$600. It's decent accuracy is well documented (1.5 MOA with cheap milsurp, approaching 1 MOA with match ammo) and it boasts typical Kalashinikov ruggedness and reliability. The biggest drawback with the Saiga is it's long, creepy and heavy military trigger which certainly holds back it's accuracy potential.
