Do you have a home defense gun? If not I would pick one up that is more efficient for that and then worry about your conceal carry later..that is unless you don't already have your license. I'm sure some guns can fill both roles but I would rather have one for each and have them be more efficient in their roles instead of having one that is OK for both.

G19. Perfect Size. If your going to practice/shoot it a lot, 9mm is the way to go.

Wife is disabled, part of her therapy is to go on walks where I am usually supporting her and she is obviously very weak. I'm also not in the best position to defend us at that point.

I also have a home business on the side and transport packages and take checks around town two or three days a week.

Even if it has limitations, I'll take it. San Joaquin is tough from what I hear.

Oh, and of course to exercise my 2A Rights.

I would definitely go with the 19 or a 17. the 19 is a great general purpose pistol. Small enough to conceal, but big enough to be very comfy to shoot. The full size Glocks (17, 22, 31, etc) are also great pistols for home defense. I just bought a G22 (.40 S&W) and I really like the size of the gun. If I didn't already have a 19, I would try to find a 17.

The 26 is a good choice too but if you use a mag with a grip extension, your grip basically becomes a G19.. If you carry it with the normal mags, it definitely is smaller. The 19 is the best choice for carry and HD.

Better find one soon. I just popped into the Glock store today to chit chat. Word is their backlog is now about one million hand guns and two million magazines. Maybe 9 months for any new orders.

I agree with this. For CCW the G19, HD the G20 with a light. The 10mm is a fantastic round.

I'm going G19 or G23....gonna try to find them in a local store (Elite Arms in Manteca should have some G19 3rd gen in about 7-10 days per one of the owners).

I want to shoot a 9mm and a .40 since they are the same size frame basically, but I want to see which ammo I want to get.

What's an average price (in normal time) for 9mm and .40 respectively?

Barnwood Arms in Ripon has a G26 and a G23....hopefully they have ammo (since you can't bring your own). I'll shoot both, see what I like (I'll go G19 if I like the G26 more).

Then pick it up at Elite Arms, woohoo!

I'm looking at eventually getting a Glock too, mainly for target practice and home defense, so I'm also debating between a 40/45 or 9mm. I'm leaning towards the 9mm, but what's the average price for 9mm ammo?

If you buy a .40 Glock the 9mm conversion barrels are about $110. For that + a couple of 9mm mags you have 2 guns. I have a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel for both my Glock 27 & 23 and they run perfectly.

I have a feeling I'm gonna love the Glock and be one of those Glock guys that has every caliber/pistol available (one day).

That being said, the barrel swap is an awesome idea, and I may look into that. Eventually I would have both if I love Glock like I think I will =D

True - I guess they can throw any number they want out there. The fact is they aren't on the shelves at the moment. They told me their store currently has about 2000 open orders. Not sure why they would tell me that if they were trying to sell me something.

+1. Glock 40 can be easily converted to 9mm. 9mm cannot easily be.converted to 40.

All I have to do to convert is swap the barrel? That seems TOO easy =P

Maybe I'll go with a G23 then. Still going to shoot it off on Monday I think.

I thought you meant that the glockstore was 1 mil back ordered. Glock being that many back makes a little more sense.

I prefer the Gen 4 G19 as my "Do all" handgun...

I carry mine in a TT Gunleather AIWB holster:

Okay,

Found these:
http://www.glockstore.com/glock-fact...s/glock-19-9mm
http://www.glockstore.com/glock-fact...-23-40-caliber

3rd/4th gen, both available. Cheaper that what my local store sells for ($539 and $569 ish if I remember correctly).

If I bought one of these, ship them to my local store, and paid the $50 transfer fee is there any downside? Why purchase in store versus glockstore.com? I'd get gen 3 likely, just need to feel each pistol to see which I want more. $40 shipping + $50 fee means its about the same price, but I can get this sooner than waiting 10 days or so for my local store to get it.

Also, what do I need to do to make a G23 shoot 9mm? Just swap the barrel for a G19 one? Is that really it?

Glockstore is sold out, you have to call to find out. I believe they said it is a 12 week wait.

Well that takes care of that. I'll wait for my store to get it. What about the barrel question?

I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this, but...

Have you considered an XD? I personally was not a fan of the Glock, especially the trigger (felt like someone poured sand into the action). I have the XD in .40, and love that gun.

Now that I have Blasphemed...

I have 34,17,19 and 26
I shot a well used 26 once and really liked it, but so far mine is less comfortable to shoot than the rest.
For competition like USPSA the 17/34 is better - easier to reload without pinching your palm.
The 19 is a good all-rounder

My favorites in the Glock line up are: the Glock 21, Glock 17, and Glock 19 in that order.

I sold 2 very nice Kimbers, and most people agree those are nice pistols.
The full size and a carry (4" barrel) performed fine, but the grips didn't fit my hands and the magazine capacity didnt help.

A G21 replaced the full size (Mark23 not available) and a G32 for carry
Some things fit better than others, your mileage may vary.

I bought the Gen3 G26 since I'm a fairly skinny guy but I wanted 10 rd mags. I really love it and it shoots great for me and conceals very well. Even though you don't get the best grip with your pinky finger, I've read, and find for myself, that your grip strength comes from your thumb and middle fingers.

Shooting one handed with strong and support has been comfortable, and I usually put 100 rds downrange in a session.

I have one mag with a Pearce extension, but I've only used it once and don't find it necessary.

Bottom line, I'll never leave my Glock. I feel the mags are the best in the business, it's easy maintenance, and has been incredibly reliable.

I buy all my ammo online since my area has bupkis.

I have Federal HST 147gr for HD ammo, which I paid about $25 for 50. Speer Gold Dots run about the same price.

For plinking, I last bought Winchester 124gr NATO in 500rd bulk at around $130. About 6 months ago I bought 5 100rd boxes of Federal at walmart for $20 each, and two 250rd boxes of Remington UMC for $70 each.

Edit: The Federal and Remington from walmart was 115gr.

My 2 cents...

I was deciding between a Glock17 and a Glock22. During my research I had found that with the Glock22, I could buy a 9mm conversion barrrel and have both a .40 and a 9mm in one gun. To my knowledge, there is no conversion barrel to make Glock17 9mm fire a 40S&W.

I ended up with the G22. I bought a 9mm conversion barrel, and also Advantage Arms' 22LR barrel. All 3 calibers shoot flawlessly. I am a happy camper.

With that said, if you are thinking of a Glock19, think about getting the Glock23 and buy a 9mm conversion barrel. (There is no 40S&W conversion for the Glock19.)

Something else for you to think about. Good luck.

Something else for you to think about. Good luck.
Alright I think I'm gonna go Glock 23, 3rd or 4th gen depending on price difference and feel in my hand.

Any links to these conversions for 9mm and 22lr? I'd LOVE those!

G19, but I would find a gen 2.

I can't stand the finger grooves on the G19 that the gen 3 has. They are too close together for my hand and makes it very uncomfortable. That being said, if you want a HD and EDC gun then the G19 is the way to go if you are going for a 9mm glock.
