USMC 0111 Jan 2010- present Yes I am an admin, and Air Wing at that. But I dare you to say something about it. Then lets see how much you get paid next month!

(I am only extra ornery today because I just watched my unit expend a WHOLE bunch of ordnance and fast rope then SPIE pick up some recon guys.....)

13 Bravo from 2001 to 2005. But not one artillery round in Iraq, just partolling.

Shot some rounds in afghan but not too much.

If I would have stayed in, I would have reclassed to 13F.

Can't go too wrong with the Big Red One (check out their history for starters - it will win you points with your TL and SL to know where your unit comes from) also, you name the smallest unit first, like my last outfit was C company, 2nd Battalion 4th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade 10th Mountain Division (c/2-4/4/10) so you'd be 3rd Brigade, 1st ID... not busting your balls, just squaring you away. The Brigade won't have much of a reputation, as it is a large unit that constantly evolves. When you get assigned to a regiment and a battalion, then you will get down to the real meat of it - deployments, unit awards, citations. I have a few buddies that are in 1ID, but I don't think they are at Knox. It's a good patch to have on your shoulder though - sit back and learn everything you can from the guys who have been around longer than you. 1ID has a lot of deployments under their belt, so pay attention. There is a lot you can pick up just by osmosis.

For both deployments in Iraq and A-stan I volunteered 68U (Chinook crewchief) duties to help as a door gunner and a temp crew member.

I just got out of 3rd brigade. Dirty Dukes. Are you going to 1-26 or 2-2? Those are the 2 infantry battalions in the 3rd. I was attached to the Blue Spaders (1-26) on the last deployment and on the first deployment 1-26 was in the Korengal Valley (think of the movie Restrepo if you've seen it. 1-26 replaced the guys in that movie and did even crazier **** than those guys.) There are a lot of knowledgeable people in both of those battalions. Let me know who you end up with, what company and battalion, I might know some of the guys if they haven't PCS'd. Oh and enjoy Knox, it sucks so bad. In winter there will be a 3inch layer of ice from Dec to Feb and in summer its so humid you can cut the air with a knife.

Thanks brother! They're planning on moving 4th BDE up to Drum. They were building on old post full force when I got out.

Good. We got no training funds at Polk... Division would say to get resources from our post, and Polk would say we already had resources from Division. We were the Red-Headed Stepchildren of the 10th Mountain. No one wanted to claim us.

We didn't want to claim you guys either lol. But I'm sure you knew there was that "hostility". Drum is no joke. We had guys in the 25th from Alaska come to us in the winter for cold weather training. A bunch of marine units came at the end of March to do theirs. It's still cold and snowing a lot in March but nothing compared to the dead of winter. At least the 25th and other Army units came in December and January lol.

Former Marine (Once... Always!)
6112 CH-46E Flight Line Mechanic, Plane Captain, CDQAR, and .50 BMG Aerial Gunner
HMMMV Driver
External Lift Ground Crew Trainer
5th Award Expert Rifle
Pistol Sharpshooter

EDIT: Oh yeah... Did my flight school, helo dunker, altitude chamber, SERE school... all the good stuff for 6172 CH-46E Crew Chief, but just before my first flight, the corpsman pulled me off the schedule and said he didn't realize my eye sight wasn't good enough. Could have told me BEFORE all the stuff, but it was fun anyway. Not so "fun" at SERE, but an experience nevertheless. Sigh... Volunteered for flights as often as I could though. Nothing like getting 1000 rounds of API .50 cal with tracers to blow off at Indian Springs!!!

OOHRAH!!!

Neither me or my MP buddies hated Infantry, they kept us busy haha. It was mostly the Infantry that hated us because when they f***ed up we had to deal with it and they blamed us for their mistakes. I hold no grudges, my 2 deployments I was attached to Infantry companies and did everything they did.
