Update.

Just got back from the range. I knew this barrel had a tight chamber, but I wanted to see if it was going to work as is. Nope. Had quite a few failures to extract and it was a chore getting a stuck case out.

Will be checking the extractor tension because it jumps over the rim (is it still called a rim on cases where the rim doesn't stand proud of the case body?) way to easily.

Video to follow soon.

I figured it was either that or a Glock guy chiming in.

It was actually something I knew about when testing the headspace. An empty case would slip in snuggly, a loaded round would need to be pressed in and it was a pia to get out. But I wanted to see what would happen. I will go finish ream the chamber right after the video is done.

Thanks guys. I have already addressed the problem areas. Was going to go out to the range again today but got busy. Will try tomorrow after work.

By the way, got a Cammer hammer for this one. I made one before but wanted to see a "real" one.

Mosin, good video and nice shooting too. Video of chamber reaming would also be of interest to some of us aspiring shadetree smiths. ;-)

I am pretty sure I have done one before. Build 2 maybe.

You just have to get one of the finish reamers. Brownells has them. They are super easy to use and the most important thing is to not over cut the chamber depth so the headspace is not ruined.

MosinVirus,

It would be really helpful and informative if you could discuss (via a video or otherwise) the trade-offs between "tight fitting" and "reliability". It seems that most people understand how a tight fit can help accuracy, but not how it might also be a detriment to reliability. Your recent chamber issues - and other build experiences - might be good examples of this.

I may not be the authority to comment on such topics. I know stuff but I don't feel I know enough to really state things in a definitive manner.

Just went to the range specifically to film this second test fire. Decided to post as is, no editing, no cutting out magazine loading, etc.

I was the only one at the range. It was awesome.
