Using USPS to ship handgun FFL to FFL
Does anyone do this? Is it a hassle? 2nd day air from UPS is $58.

If you ship firearms USPS, then you need to fill out form 1508. If your post office is not familiar or has issues, then it can be a hassle. New clerks can be a hassle, until they are educated.
I have not had a problem shipping USPS. It is much cheaper. Also, create an account on the USPS web site and order (free) regional boxes (not available any other way), which can be much cheaper than the flat rate boxes. You still need to compare the rates to see what the lowest rate is.

Flat rating handguns for $20 or less is definitely worth it.

The regional boxes can be half of that and it is almost flat rate (some weight limits).

So I'm taking that priority mail meets the ATF timing needs for handguns now.

There is no ATF timing needs. That is a profit issue with UPS when they were going public and FedEx followed, to also make more money.

Well, actually, yes, in a way. Federal law requires that you notify the shipper in writing for any firearm shipments. While the USPS does not require it for long guns, only for handguns, that does not change the other requirements.
I talked to FedEx and they did not have a clue about it since they said to talk to the BATF, but that does not help with what they want for having it in writing. I guess a post-it note will due :-).

Are you over their given reason it was because their employees were steal so many guns? Not that I might not believe you, but the explanation given was too many handguns were disappearing and this supposedly reduces employee theft.

Do you really think that UPS is going to say that the reason for the change was to increase profits just before the IPO in order to really make a lot more money? Do you have any idea as to how that would go over?
If there was really a theft problem, wouldn't it make sense to deal with the problem? Why would major shipping companies be exempt from the overnight shipping? At first, they said that only one handgun could be in a package, which made the package smaller and easier to steal (well, not really). Are long guns not as much of an issue in terms of theft? Do you really think that a UPS employee just walks out with a package? Ask a UPS employee about security at the facilities. Do you know that one way for a UPS employee to steal a package is to put a new label on it, so if you put labels on each side it is less likely to be stolen?

Last time I tried to ship a handgun through UPS they sent it back to me and said they only ship them next day air . They wanted $117 for that! So I took the package over to USPS, (I had printed and filled out the 1058 first) I also brought my FFL and the recievers FFL just in case. It cost me $21 flat rate 2 day shipping.
