Default Are the days of the Big5 Mosin Nagant over?

I talked to some local store managers and heres what I got:

Store 1: No we dont have any and we dont plan on getting any more.

Store 2: Theres none in the warehouse

Store 3 the guy basically laughed at me and tried to sell me the sniper model.

I wanted to get a few more before 2014 but I guess other routes have to be arranged.

Pretty much no ones has them atm, the numbers of them being imported where dwindling even before the panic buy.

If you want to get them before 2014 to avoid the registration buy them FTF.. but don't expect to get the old Big 5 price of 80-100 expect to pay 180-200 for a 91/30.

I have heard the same thing. It was fun while it lasted. On the bright side, maybe some new rifle will flood the surplus market

That's it right there. The days of the $100 Mosin are officially over.

I picked up my M44 around that time too, for $89. Wish I'd gotten more too. Knew it had to end someday though.

Now anyone want a beautiful M44 for $500? Or will trade for an AR.

There are a lot of scofflaws, knaves, rapscallions, scoundrels and scamps that actually think that supplies of Mosins and surplus 54R ammo will last forever. Just make an end run around all that FUD and snap them up along with a few tins of ammo while you can!

I remember back in the 90's I would pass them over (plenty of other suplus rifles to choose from). Mid 2000's, I pulled up a Shotgun News and they were still very affordable. 2012 I pulled the trigger and finally got one. 2013 they are becoming an endangered species. I might have to get a C&R to have a chance on some other models. =(

Agreed. It all started for me one spring afternoon when I realized I could buy a small piece of history for the princely sum of 79.99. Haven't stopped but damn if I haven't spent that a few times over since.

For any of you suffering from Mosin withdrawals, I may be downsizing my Mosin SHTF collection a bit. Not sure how many I will sell or for how much, but keep your ear to the ground if you don't mind paying shipping.
Sad day when even Mosins here in MN are selling for $150 minimum for rifles that look like mismatched pogo sticks.

Yup - I don't think you'll ever see $100 Mosins again!

Glad I picked up a few prior to all this maddness.

On a side note: I wouldn't be surprised (given the current political climate) if Big 5 got out of the gun/ammo business all together.

I wanted another 91-30 as a shooter with a little value. but nothing to nice. i am treating turners and big 5 as if they are out of the Mosin biz. if they come back fine. i picked up a 1931 tula from a FFL for 250 bucks. i feel that is the new going price retail. the metal is very nice and the wood is so so. i might buy a 42-44 izzy on sale someplace with nice wood and swap out the wood. i did sell to many of my mosins in the last 6 months. i figured big 5 would still sell them for a while. just shows ya we never know.

So I thought the Big 5 snipers were actual Mosins built by Tula or Izzy and the scope was original - but they were slapped together and forced matched much later, never built to be actual snipers?
Are they in fact not built by Tula or Izzy?

Aimsurplus had some Mosin 91/30 shooter grades for $90 + ship a few days ago. Their normal price for plain jane 91/30 is $109 + ship. This isn't too far off from Big 5's price I believe.

I think they will continue to trickle in over time. It's just this massive buying that keeps things off the shelves for now.

They'll be back once people stop panic buying and hoarding everything like they do every election.

I am very glad in retrospect that I bought 2 Mosins on Black Friday at Big 5 for $99 each + tax & DROS.

The manager let me pick through several boxes and I ended up with 2 very pristine all matching 1940 models. One was was an Izzy and the other a Tula!

When I say "repro PU" I mean that all of the sniper parts are repros. The rifles are real 91/30s, but they were originally built as infantry rifles.

Probably an ex-dragoon rifle with that date.

The other day the Big5 in Rohnert Park had a Mosin for 175. Also yesterday I saw a Mosin at the Big5 in the Coddingtown Mall, Santa Rosa. Sonoma County seems to be getting them in regularly.

Just put one in jail at our local Big 5 - in Visalia. Self control is highly over-rated IMHO...

I really wanted to buy the crate of Mosins back when they were $89 each and discounted when you buy the crate altogether. Damn man, for that M1A I could have had a crate of Mosins. Now here we are scraping the bottom of the barrel in the For Sale forums of calguns for overpriced Mosins.
