Default Keep the pictures coming! Help out your fellow Calgunners!

This thread is only as good as the content, if you have an .308 AR style rifle and don't mine sharing what you built and what parts you put into it... Please post them so we can all admire your creations!

Again, this is to both help other folks with their project builds and to just show off your BEAST of a RIFLE you have!

Thanks in advance,

Pros: My CMMG MK-8, it accepts HK G3 magazines, "which are three bucks a magazine". I converted one to a ten rounder and never had an issue.
I had the upper assembled and converted by Randall, "AR15barrels.com". The gun shoots very straight and is a lot of fun. Since the MK-8 was completed, my Remington 700P is collecting dust in the safe. Yet the 700 is just a tad bit more accurate, the auto loading MK-8 just feels like a beast.

Cons: lower has no bolt catch. So I need to count my rounds. That's about it.

Upper Specs:
JD machine G3 LR-308 upper,
DPMS Bolt Carrier Group,
PRI 308 Charging Handle,
DPMS 24" 1:10" Stainless bull barrel cut down to 20" then thread,
DPMS Miculek 308 brake, "loud yet effective",
Midwest .936 low pro gas block with DPMS rifle gas tube,
Troy 308 MRX FF handguards,
Harris Bi-Pod with Knights adapter,
Currently has Troy battle sights but old picture shown with POF hood fixed front sight and A.R.M.S. #40L rear sight.
A.R.M.S. #35 QD base with 30mm A.R.M.S. #35M ring,
Millett TRS-2 10X50mm illuminated scope, "I bought this scope as a temporary scope, but after 500 plus rounds, the TRS-2 had always returned back to zero from 600 to 100 yards and is built pretty soild; so therefore, it's going to be on the rifle until it ever craps out".

Lower Specs:
CMMG MK-8 lower,
DPMS LPK,
DPMS palm rest grip,
DPMS A2 complete butt stock,
Raddlock BB,
and a bunch of HK G3 magazines

Here is an update of my build so far. Taking it slow

The DPMS mag catch is not holding in the magazine. I ordered the Armalite AR10 mag catch since I have heard this will fix the issue. It has a longer threaded stud for better thread engagement.The catch portion itself is slightly taller allowing a better catch on the magazine.

The Extended Bolt Release v2/308 (EBRv2/308) was horrible so I took it off. I guess its not the EBR's fault. The CMMG lower trigger hole is small so to me there was not enough room in there for it. Also the EBR was hitting the CMMG lower part where it comes out on the lower not allowing a smooth function.

Oh and the CMMG lower finish was chaulky so i Sprayed it with a little Desert Mirage Brown Duracoat Will do this prbably with the upper as well. Not sure yet though.

Build so far consist of:
CMMG .308 Lower
DPMS Lower Receiver Parts Kit Less Trigger Group (.308)
Mil-Spec Receiver Extension 6 Position
Command Arms ACC Grip
Magpul PMAG LR20 10/20

Parts needed:
16” Bushmaster Moe style upper
Chrome BCG
Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Trigger
Magpul CTR Carbine Mil Spec - In The Mail
castle nut / receiver end plate - In The Mail
Car-10 Bufffer Assembly (heavybuffers.com)
Battle Arms Development - Ambidextrous Safety Selector (BAD-@$$)
VLTOR BCMGUNFIGHTER Charging Handle (7.62mm/.308) w/ Mod 4

No sir it screws on and then clamps down tight. I only have 80 rds through it but it didn't move at all. Comp worked pretty well, I dont have anything to compare it to tho.

I got it on Ebay from a seller named dark metal designs. It is a clone of the Roedale comp made in Germany.

DPMS upper, handguard, BCG, buffer, spring and LPK
Fulton 16" barrel and gas block
PWS FSC30 brake
RRA 2 stage trigger
No-name milspec buffer tube
Magpul ACS stock
And of course Bullet Button

Will probably swap out the handguard for a lighter weight one like the troy (got the DPMS ones on a deal).

No idea how it shoots but it looks cool

If you go that route I'd get whatever you can (without going over budget) in tan and then Krylon the rest. Use their Ultra Flat Camouflage paint. Only part I wouldn't paint would be the barrel.

Personally I think all black looks the best...

With an all tan gun I always like the stainless barrel. Which is not like me at all, I think guns always look better black.

How durable is krylon? I was looking at duracoat and that seemed like it had the best durability of the bunch.

If you're willing to spend the money to have someone do a good duracoat job on it I'd go for it, otherwise just break out the spraypaint.

edit: durable enough however places you continually put your sweaty little hands, where it bumps the bench or the side of the safe may show wear pretty quickly.

How durable is krylon? I was looking at duracoat and that seemed like it had the best durability of the bunch.
Comparing DuraCoat to Krylon is a losing proposition. No comparison. Duracoat is alot more durable & resilient when exposed to chemicals & harsh useage.

I'm located in San Diego and have DuraCoated several firearms. My prices are far below my competition. Figure about $80 for stripped upper & lower receivers which includes surface prep with Aluminum Oxide blasting for superiuor adhesion. I currently have MagPul FDE color in stock.

Placeholder for a Mega build. Has anybody used the Vltor A5 on one yet?

http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=sho...roduct_id=2217

Has anybody used a FSC or Battle Comp? I'm trying to get the same recoil impulse of the 5.56 with 14.5" middy + a pinned Battle Comp or FSC? Obviously it will have more recoil. For those of you that never fired a 14.5 middy plus FSC, it's like shooting a 10/22 compared to my 16" carbine gas system. So if I can, say, get the 308 down to .223, it'd be a great all purpose SHTF MBC, main battle carbine with a TA33.

I've also attached a screen capture of an excel file which shows where I got all the items, and how I built this rifle for under $1300 (minus the scope and bipod). some of the items where bought on sale, so the prices at the links might be a little off (the bolt and the muzzle brake).

Lower Receiver
Part Number ::: Part Description

MK-3 ::: CMMG Stripped Lower
LRPK-308 ::: DPMS .308 Lower Parts Kit
999999993495 ::: Bullet Button
PG-TG ::: DPMS Panther Tactical Pistol Grip
308-CS-10B ::: DPMS .308 Carbine Length Buffer
308-CS-10A ::: DPMS .308 Carbine Length Buffer Spring
CS-09-DOD ::: DPMS 6 Position Buffer Tube (Mil. Spec)
AEB Series ::: VLTOR Emod Stock, Black
20 LR ::: Magpul .308 PMag 10/20

Upper Reciever
Part Number ::: Part Description

308-FTT-EA1 ::: DPMS .308 A3 Receiver (Assembled)
308-BL-SASS ::: DPMS 18" .308 SASS Barrel Fluted
308-FF-4SL ::: DPMS .308 Standard Length Low 4 Rail Free Float Tube
308-BCA ::: DPMS .308 Bolt Carrier and Bolt Assembly (Assembled)
GB-LP936 ::: DPMS Micro .936 Gas Block
BL-04C ::: DPMS Mid Length Gas Tube
TRB308 ::: Talon Brake for Rifle .308/7.62x51

Scope: Apex Tactical LLC Ghost Mil Spec 6-25x50mm w/ illuminated cross-hairs (this scope works excellent so far, especially for their price, but the reason I originally got it was the guy who makes them lives close by and i got it in a trade. Best trade ever)

I just fired mine today w/the FSC brake, recoil is still there but not hard to hold it on target. However the sound is deafening.

Nice build. Have you had a chance to try her out yet?

Also have you had any issues with your pmag with your cmmg lower? I have heard on another thread that people were having issues of the bolt not picking up the bullet. Also my mag catch was not holding my pmag in with my cmmg lower. I am getting the ar10 mag catch delivered in the mail on monday so I will see if that one works better.

I have been wanting to build a AR10 and been holding off because I have to buy everything new. I can't use some of my AR15 parts laying around.

Could someone please post a list of AR15 parts that can be used on an AR10 build?

I noticed some people are using PRS and UBR stocks. I have an extra PRS stock and I wanted to use for the build. Do I have to get a PRS stock specifically for an AR10?

BTW...I wished I didn't see this thread...all of your builds are awesome..and its making me want to build one..

I took it out once last weekend as I finished this build the Wednesday prior, I put 60 bullets down range to start breaking in the barrel and sighting in the scope and it worked quite well with the ammo I brought (federal 7.62x51) but my friend who was there with me shooting his m14 loaded a mag with his rounds and for some reason they had trouble clearing the chamber. As for the pmag, I have had it just drop out a couple times when I was playing with it before I had an upper. I noticed if I pushed my thumb on the left side of the bullet button toward the right side, it had just enough play to rotate the mag catch out enough that I could get the mag out if I jiggled it so I tightened the bully button down as much as I could, and then put a very thin shim between the right side of the bullet button and the inside of the button well on the lower which has worked wonderfully so far.

The PRS308 has a flatter cheek weld to allow clearance for the charging handle. Are you interested in trading for the UBR?
