Default So, I walked into a Pawn shop the other day.....

And walked out with this SKS. It's not anything all that exciting, but it looks like it was shot seldom, if ever since it hit these shores. I think what attracted me to it was that it is the Type 56 rifle collectors have dubbed the "French tickler". For some reason that just tickles my fancy, pardon the pun.

I don't particularly collect SKS's, but then again I do have a half dozen of them, so maybe I do?

Made at the Jianshe arsenal (factory 26) in 1979. Hard for me to believe that it is now 43 years old and almost a C&R just on age alone. It is missing the cleaning rod (but I believe I have one back in Reno) and it does have the cleaning kit in the buttstock. Overall it is as clean an SKS as I have seen lately which is why I bought it

Does anyone know what the "K" means after the serial number?

That's a nice looking late date Chinese SKS. I really like some of the later produced carbines.

Very clean, nice score. If you are able to share, how much did it cost you? I scored a nice Chinese SKS (not as nice as yours though!) last year in the Marketplace at $500 so if you were even within a couple of hundred, that's not bad considering condition.

It's a screw in.

I'm pretty sure it was imported by Kengs although it doesn't specifically say it. The receiver is marked "SKS 7.62X39 Made in China By Norinco Poly ATL GA". I know that Kengs was, and still is, in Atlanta. I was thinking it may have been added by Kengs (It is a different font) but want to confirm it if I can.

After a bit of negotiation, I paid $560. Way more than I ever thought I would pay for a Chinese SKS, but when I checked Gunbroker to get a feel for the current market, it was about an average price, if not a bit under. I am still looking for a blade bayonet Chinese SKS. Once I find one at a reasonable price, I will be done with looking for Chinese SKS's. I wasn't really looking for this one, but it was just so darn clean I couldn't pass it up.

Nice, OP! Congratulations!

Anyone else remember when those were going for less than $100?

I remember when you could buy them at the Great Western for $69 each, or $600 for a crate of ten. If you bought a crate, they would throw in a case of ammo.

For a Chinese SKS in that condition, at 2022 prices, you did very well IMHO. Enjoy it!

I remember similar pricing while attending gun shows at the Cow Palace in Daly City, just across the street from San Francisco. My, how things have changed…

According to SKS files, that “K” suffix means it’s a factory 26 rifle, in the 23M range, that was imported by Poly USA.

Yep, that's exactly what I have figured out. Just wanted to know for sure that the "K" stood for Kengs. Now all I need is an early blade bayonet Type 56 and my Chinese SKS collecting will be done..............Unless I run into a deal on another spike bayonet one.

That's a beauty. I've never seen one that nice. There used to be some SKS forums on the interwebs that were full of good info on these Chicom rifles.

Good Score Highpower!

Moved all the way to TN and didn't stop by on yer way through New Mexico?
I'm C&R FFL free as of midnight tonight, it expires then. Don't need it any longer anyway.

I let my C&R expire many years ago, just didn't seem to be worth the hassle once I was out of Commiefornia.

Yep moved out in 2017, kept the FFL for a couple online purchases and then when I didn't get a renewal notice as normal I said to heck with it, let it go.
Let my medical license go, could not justify $700 to Kommiefornica for a license I can no longer use anyway as well as had to surrender my Class A CDL when moving here cuz no longer able to pass the physical (after 3 heart attacks), that hurt the most, I'd had it since 1976!

Only thing I'm looking for is a Ruger MK IV standard at a reasonable price and 15 min at the gunshop for the NICS, got more C&R's than I can use or need and will be cleaning house soon, I think. No rush and i might change my mind anyway

I still hang on to mine..... saves me $20 and having to go through a DROS when I mail order a nice C&R piece. But you have a point - most of my transactions seem to be cash and carry nowadays.

I don't normally sell guns, only buy them.

My tastes in firearms tend to be somewhat eclectic and range from antiques and C&R guns to modern stuff. Pretty much anything can pique my interest which gives me a wide variety of arms that I can spend my children's inheritance on.

In the last six weeks I have picked up:

Japanese Type 99 school rifle
Chinese SKS
MP5 clone
German made Sig P220
German made Sig P239
American Sig P210

I am really thinking hard about running up to Union City next week to visit Dixie Gun Works and pick up a S&W 3rd model revolver

As you can see, I am all over the place as far as what I buy.

Nice rig. I've got a French Ticker HG on one of my Paratroopers. It was the only one that matched the stock color at the time I acquired it. PAX
