Default Current wait time for COE?

Anybody got a lead for when I can expect my COE to arrive?

I submitted mine around the 1st of December and it still isn't here.

Thanks

Got my renewal back in just about a month. When I first applied for the COE it took about the same...

That sounds a bit abnormal. When I initially got mine, wait time was about a month. My renewal turnaround was about 2 or 3 weeks. It doesn't seem out of the ordinary considering everything DOJ has going on, but I'd follow up.

Ugh. Ok. "Following up" with the DOJ is always a red tape thrill ride.

Thanks guys

I believe it's BOF and not DOJ per say. I didn't have issues getting a hold of BOF when I needed to contact them.

Yes, BOF is a department of DOJ, but do call them directly. I also have never had an issue getting in touch with someone from BOF and they're generally pretty helpful as long as you don't act like a dick.

That all sounds odd. I mailed my renewal late on like Jan 7th and got it sometime around Jan 21. Must be just new COE apps that are feeling the delay.

I mailed my new application on Dec 5th and have not received it either. I called DOJ and in the pre recorded message they state an approximate time frame of 30 days. The recording also says they will not check the status of an application until 90 days...Aaarrrggg!
Here is the number I called for CA DOJ...
(916) 227 7527.
It appears renewals have a faster turnaround...

Mailed COE Renewal: 2/1/17
Check Cashed: 2/23/17
Received COE renewal: 3/15/16 arrived in mail.
Letter inside envelope was dated 3/10/17
COE Certificate is back dated to the original expiration date in Feb.

A Friend also sent in his COE renewal the day after I had mailed mine. His check also cleared the same day as mine.

Updated 3/15/17

Turn around time was exactly 6 weeks for me, 42 days (including mailings back and fourth).

Looks like these are processed in batches, from the looks of when others were sent in and many of us having the checks cashed on the same date.

Same here, and it was a new app for me. Still waiting on 03 FFL.

It would be interesting to see if having CCW makes any difference to the time. I have CCW and got my COE very fast.

Mine was in the mail on 1/5/17. Finally made a call to their designated number and talked to a real person. The lady on the phone said she found my application in their system, that it had been approved, but the paperwork had not yet been completed to mail out. She said it was in the system as of 1/20/17.

That's when she complained that she had about 1000 new applications on her desk and she was the only one processing them.

It arrived Monday! So, mine showed up 7 weeks after they said they received it. Don't know if it was just my place in line, or the expidited it because I phoned in?

How did you get a live person? What number did you call? I mailed my renewal over a month ago and they still haven't cashed my check.

I just called them, I mailed by renewal in 2nd week of Feb and I noticed they have yet to cash my check. They told me they are currently processing COEs
applications/renewals that were entered in as received on Feb 11 (they have mine logged 2/16)

Mailed my application the day after Thanksgiving 2016 and I finally received it January 24 2017. I actually called the Bureau of Firearms because I was getting a little worried and it was in the mail box three days later. Here is the number if you would like to do the same.(916) 227-3751....good luck!

Update on this. Nine days after the second live scan the COE arrived in mail. So from start to finish, with two live scans, 82 days.
