Thankfully I saved my Polish M44. Not selling or trading this one period.

I received the Izhevsk SKS, and I am quite pleased with it
The pics make it look shinier than it is, but here are some more:

Congrats Bobby, that is a minty one for sure. Very cool that it came with the original box too. I love the root beer color that the Russian stocks have.

Thanks Man.. I will openly admit that I bought this rifle as a safe queen / investment piece. It was disassembled, inspected, reassembled, photographed, socked, and safed. It is not up there with NVA, NK, or EG variants, but is probably as close as I will get!

One interesting thing I read over on SKS boards was that they are no longer considering the horizontally numbered stocks and handguards as EX-DDR pieces, but rather as refurb marks of some sort.

That SKS is a beauty.
What's the history with these from KBI? Were they new/unissued, stored by Russia, then sold off as surplus to a US importer?

There were a few different importers of Russian SKS rifles, but the KBI offers seemed to be among the nicest of them. The first Russian I acquired was also still in the KBI box, and I still have it. These two rifles bookend nicely.

Seller quoted shipping at $20

After shipping the rifle, the seller emailed me that he grossly underestimated the shipping cost. He showed me the receipt from some sort of "Rip and Ship" place and the total was $55.

He asked me to pony up another $35 to square him on shipping. I told him he got fleeced badly and overpaid for what turned out to be a really sucky packing job.

I told the seller that I was not responsible for the extra shipping cost, and that he overpaid big time. It could have gone USPS parcel post insured for half that price (Yes, even now in 2017 rates.)

Once the seller acknowledged that it was his error and that I was not responsible for the extra $35, I sent him the $35. I just wanted to prove a point. The reason why I caved is because the seller had no idea what he was doing, made the mistakes in error, and most of all because it is a nice collectible rifle. I have seen similar matching T53's go for a lot more, so it was no big deal.

So the long answer to your short question: $330 to my door.

I thought you can't ship guns through the USPS. Has that changed?

It is always better to refer to the regs than to rely on what you overheard or read on the Internets or think or thought. I heard the same thing from a USPS window clerk. I told her she was wrong and asked her to check her own employer's rules. She didn't even bother and just accepted the box.

Just because someone has a name tag on, it does not in any way ensure that they have any idea what they are doing.
