Default M1 Carbines at Century $799.87

Just noticed these.

Makes me appreciate even more the CMP carbine I got from the last release

Inland $799.87 http://www.centuryarms.biz/proddetai...prod=RI1397-GC

Winchester $849.87 http://www.centuryarms.biz/proddetai...prod=RI1471-GC

Both advertised as "good" condition with cracked stocks

Put a bid of $850 $950 on gunbroker for an Inland & you're likely to win it. For that extra $50 $150 you'll get an intact stock & pics of the exact one you're getting.

Correction - looks like prices have gone up since autumn, which was the last time I checked.

More years ago than I care to contemplate, I paid $80 for my Winchester incl canvas scabbard, bayonets, strap with oiler and half dozen mags. Did the deal for cash with a neighbor in the driveway on the spur of the moment. Ahh the good old days. Probably haven't put 50 rounds through it since.

I remember back in the day scoring a pre-owned mattress at a yard sale for $5. Very lightly used, factory tag intact, and one side was nearly stain free. I feel sorry for all these clueless noobs nowadays paying full pop plus high commission at retail sleep stores. LOL those were the days.....

If you have 03FFL you can get set up as a "dealer" and buy CA legal C&R from them

Yeah it is pretty easy and quick turn around time. Then you'll be able to log in and see prices and place orders.

If you have a C&R FFL and a COE this is a good buy. Get a Winchester if you have a choice and tell them to remove the magazine in the order comments.

With today's prices in Ca, $795 is an ok price for a clean rebuilt gun. If it's super beat up and the finish is worn away might be a little steep. It's lost some collectors value but would make a really nice shooter. I can't see the pics very well on my iPhone. Stock looks beat up. Inlands were the most produced and usually are the least expensive out of the manufacturers who produced them.

I see rebuilt carbines that are pretty mint with $900 asking price in today's Ca market. About 6 years ago every rebuilt carbine ide see at gun shows from private sellers had $695.

You can make the stock really nice by refinishing it yourself. Use paint stripper, then warm water and a Brillo pad, can lightly sand some beat up areas. If it has bunch of dents and bruises you can steam it. Then use watered down birchwood Casey walnut stain, boiled linseed oil to seal it up. Take your time and watch how tos and you could make a nice project and have a clean fun shooter.

You can't shop Century w/o a C&R FFL. They didn't say "we won't sell to you" they said "we can't sell to CA". I'm not very pleased about this either.

The whiners are the ones who drone on endlessly with their worn out "back in my day" anecdotes, which are usually about 10% truth and 90% rose colored nostalgic daydreams.

People can post whatever they want, but such cyber spittle and memory lane drivel usually add nothing whatsoever to the conversation.

"Missing out" on something implies an opportunity that was available but not acted upon. A person can't "miss out" on something that occurred while they were in elementary school.

Those same whiners are usually the ones who also say they refuse to buy a [insert C&R here] at the current price when back in the day there were buckets of them for $50 each. So they must be only worth about $50, maybe $60, right?

Kinda like that '58 Corvette that was $2000 new, it should only be worth about $2500 max now, right? After all, there were dealer lots full of them at that time! Or that $10k house back in 1970, it shouldn't be worth more than $12k, maybe $15k because there's nice landscaping, but no more than that. After all, there were whole developments full of them for the picking.

My retort is if those C&Rs were so cheap back then, why didn't they buy the whole bucket full of them?

Because everything is relative, and people always glaze over the fact that they made $1.10 an hour when the guns were cheaper.

Nor was it easy to walk uphill (both ways) to the gun store in a wintry Southern California blizzard while wearing a burlap sackcloth and wooden shoes.

In some instances when you adjust for inflation the C&R stuff is the same price or even less than the good old days.
